Does one have to leave 800,000 Baht in his bank account every year in order to live in Thailand? Also If I retire to Thailand how any Baht do I need to have each month coming in if I am married to a Thai?

The funds are expected to be used to support your retirement here so there should be a flow. It is not expected to remain at 800k all year.

If you are married you also have the option to obtain a support Thai wife extension of stay which currently requires 400k in bank; so it would be about half of the retirement long stay extension requirements.

A marriage is only a marriage if it is registered.  Supporting the girl friends does not count. :D

If you married a Thai outside Thailand that is fine for your purpose. Be aware that Thai law does not recognize de facto relationships.

It will be interesting to see the Thai reaction to overseas registered Gay marriages, which are now becoming a fact of life :o

A few years ago the Singaporeans had a hard time understanding an American couple that I know. She had the job and he was the dependant, but the eventually accepted it.

Thailand cannot cope now with a foreign wife being the breadwinner. It raises buggery ( so to speak ) in an immigration sense. More buggery will be raised here for same sex couples ( no pun intended )
