Filipino Baby Born Here In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,

Both me and my wife are Filipino living in thailand as tourist since 2007, our baby is now 10 months old and our baby was born here in Thailand.

Does anyone know, what will be baby "visa/citizenship" status ??

Will our Baby get any special thai visa / citizenship benefits ???

Or what are the benefits of a baby born here Thailand.

Thanks in advance for your help

Your baby is Filipino not Thai.

Not sure on benefis regarding the visa.

No special Thai visa for foreigners born in Thailand.

Found an old thread about this.

It is to my interpretation of the law that since both you and your wife are foreign are tourists in Thailand, and at least one of you is not registered as a legal immigrant, your baby is not currently elegible for Thai citizenship. Your baby is only elegible to be a national of the Philippines.

So your wife was well on the way when you traveled to Thailand.

I was quite surprised that my Filipino gf was asked if she was pregnant by Cebu Pacific last time we checked in to fly over here in August this year. She's skinny, so it had nothing to do with her looking pregnant.

Now I know why.

Be careful about this, because 2 Filipino parents living in Thailand on tourist visas with a baby looks highly suspect when you are asked the question: "do you work?". You may get more than you bargained for if you visit immigration to get papers for the baby.

I was born in thailand of filipino parents...i think they registered me there but i am not a thai citizen...we did not stay in thailand but went back to the philippines where i have stayed ever since...but i discovered i do not have a thai birth certificate or a filipino one...the nso and the dfa adviced me to go back to thailand to get a certificate/birth registry but the dfa will not issue me a passport to travel anywhere. can i ask my mother to get my birth registration in thailand or do i have to personally have to go there myself?

That's typical logic from a government agency in the Philippines. Go back to Thailand when you obviously haven't got a passport. If you did you wouldn't need a birth certificate.

How stupid can they be? You obviously need a birth certificate to get a passport.

This type of nonsense is very frustrating.

I would recommend you find a good lawyer to help you through this. I can't see any easy solution.
