A month or so ago when we last had a few days of rain in succession, a patch of bare earth along my dog walking route became quite muddy, with the odd truck using the space to turn and park it became rutted. A week or so ago during the cool weather we have had here, I noticed a frog had taken advantage of the situation and there were tadpoles swimming around one of the water filled isolated ruts. I only noticed them because one of the dogs insisted on a mid walk refresher one day.

So each day following the discovery I would check up on their progress, surely some would surcome to the tire treads of the odd pickup or a hungry bird, but things seems OK until the weather turned warmer last week. Their puddle was a little smaller each evening compared with the morning 'dog walk' until I finally considered that it would bother me enough if they weren't there the next time I walked past.

Operation Luck Frog:

A large glass jar was obtained and from a soup thick muddy smudge I rescued about 30 tadpoles, splitting them into two groups in former coke bottles, they remained at home for a few days where their water was cleaned a few times and the mud fell from supension until I could find somewhere to rehouse them.

Over the weekend I found a nearby pond, probably not the cleanest in Pattaya - but there was an established food chain there with small fish and snails present amoung the lumps of expanded polystyrene and other disgarded debris.

On closer examination of the pictures I think they were toads, but whatever they are, they are lucky.
