On the improved Thai Post Office website, it now clearly lists the cost of sending items of specific weight to specific destinations.

For example 30g to the UK. A small packet by surface mail costs 25 Baht. A letter by air mail costs 31 Baht. An international EMS package costs 1100 Baht.

They also use the abbreviation SAL. e.g. a 30g letter by SAL costs 25 Baht.

Does anyone know what SAL stands for? It doesn't seem to apply to surface mail, nor does it seem to apply to airmail. So what is it?

SAL Economy Airmail is slower and roughly 40% cheaper than Priority Airmail. Again, it has the 2kg small package, cut-rate limit, also accepts up to 30kg, and a maximum 600mm longest dimension. SAL appears acronymed from ‘Sea, Air & Land’ transport, and at times has lived up to this, with UK deliveries varying from 10 days to 6 weeks, averaging 3-4 weeks for most shipments.
