Immigration Office Or Visa Run?

Featured Replies

Here in LOS on a 12 month, multi-entry non-Imm B visa, coming up on my 90 days. This is the longest consecutive period I've been here, so I've never had to do a visa run before. Thanks to the PAD, my next trip out of here won't be until January, a full month after my 90 days is up. With a Non-Imm B, can I sort this out at the immigration office, or must I do a border hop?

No. You must leave Thailand and come back again.

Thank you. Does this also apply to a Non Immi 'O' Visa ( marriage ). I am in the same situation, just comming up on my first 90 days.

Christian

Yes, the same goes for that. Unless you qualify for an extension of stay for one year.

(You have an income of 40,000 baht a month or 400,000 on a Thai bankaccount for 60 days prior to applying for the extension).

For you an one time extension for 60 days is also possible.

Yes I do have the THB 400,000 plus since more then 60 days on a Thai bank account under my name. So I can go to the immigration office in BKK and get a full 1 year in addition to the expired 90 days. Is that correct ?

Correct.

If you live in BKK that is, if not go to your local immigration office as BKK turns people away if they not live there.

Also call immigration in advance to see what documents they want. Like photo's of you and your wive and house. (requirements are different at each office). They will also want your wive to accompany you to interview her to determine of you are not only married on paper. Normaly you will get a 30 day extension while they consider your application and then give you the rest of the year.

We are living in 'Phatumthani' ( near Future Park ) this should be considered BKK? I cant really find any info on the immigration website ( i.e.: Office location etc ).

Thanks for you help ( I am sure this is the 1,000,000 post in regards to this matter :o ).

The "main" Immigration Office is on Soi Suan Plu, just off of Sathorn Road (near Wireless/Wittayu).

It's always busy so probably best to get the as early as possible?

I guess you missed this. Just click contact us and then location.

I actually didnt. However, the website does not specify to which office you have to go. I will just try my luck in BKK.

Let us know how you get on in BKK, we're in Pathum too (Bangkadi), never had any issues previously but you never know.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Will do.

Last question ( I promiss ) - after reading here all day im forum, I have less clue then before :o Seems like the Thai immigration system is much more complicated then the US.

1.) How often can I apply for a one year extension ? As many times I want to ( trying of course ). Or has the VISA to be valid in order to apply for an extension of stay.

2.) If the last, would it be possible to do 'boarder runs' and apply for an extension of stay ( 1 Year ) within the last week of the validation of the VISA ?

Thanks for your help guys.

Btw: I am in Bung Yeetho :D anyone else out there ?

Will do.

You can apply for the extension every year. No need for border runs. No need to get a new visa. :o

That's what I needed to hear ! :D

Thank you.

After you get the one year extension you will then need to get a re-entry permit at immigration before leaving or you will loose your extension. The cost is 1000 baht for a single and 3800 for a multiple re-entry permit.

Also once you get your 12 month extension you will have to report your address to Immigration every 90 days. Unless you leave the country within 90 days under the conditions Joe pointed out.

Ok, as I said, thank you for all the help. But another question came out.

My passport has just 2 blank pages left. Do I have to get a new VISA in case I receive a new passport or can I carry the 'old' passport with the VISA and the new empty passport together to immigration ? This works in alot of countries, not sure how they handle it here.

2 pages are more than enough. The extension stamps are very small.

You haven't mentioned where your are from yet. But you did mention US visas.

If from the US you can go to the consulate and get pages added for free.

I am German, but I have lived for 8 years in the USA.

2 Pages aren't enogh. Considered I have to go to China and Hong Kong in March and have to get a Chinese VISA as well. :o

So, do I need a new VISA in my new passport or can I carry the 'old' passport with VISA in my expired passport together with the new passport ?

You can carry both passports.

Any Visas will stay in you old passport. Any extensions can be transferred to your new one.

Just travel with the 2 passports.

..and now I owe you guys a beer. Thanks for the help and the good news. :o

Is there somethink like a forum meeting ?

  • 1 month later...

When can you apply for the yearly extension ? is there any rule like 'not earlier then 7 days prior the date you have to leave' or 'within the last 30 days of you allowed stay' or whenever you want ?

Within the last 30 days. You could do it as soon as you get down to that date.

Some immigration offices will let you do it earlier.

But I would never wait until the last day. My suggestion is do it no later than 1 week before it is due.

Agree. If a problem pops up you will have enough time to sort it out.
