At 03.30 on December 7th, 2008, Pattaya police deputy superintendent Pol.Lt.Col. Sutham Chaosrithong was notified that a tourist had been the victim of a snatch and run in front of Nova Lodge, Central Pattaya.

Police officers rushed to the scene where they found Mr. Muller Helmut Bernd (43), from Germany and Miss June Lyth (50), from the UK waiting for help. Both had scrape wounds on their bodies.

Mr. Bernd told police that he had ridden Miss Lyth on his motorbike to go back to a hotel at Naklua after having some drinks. At the Dolphin Roundabout, two men on a motorbike drove close to them and the passenger snatched Miss Lyth's bag containing 2,000 Baht, 15 Pound Sterling and many other documents. The thieves then sped away heading for the beach road. Mr. Bernd shouted for help and chased the suspects but he and Miss Lyth fell off the motorbike in front of Nova Lodge. The suspects had thrown the bag on the roadside and ridden away.

Subsequently, police pursued the thieves until they eventually crashed into a Baht-bus in front of Pratumnak Soi 17, South Pattaya. Police arrested Mr. Sakol Jantaraporn or nickname "Gluay" (24), from Pijit province and Mr. Komkrit Ketsorn or nickname "Nok" (22), from Chonburi, and confiscated as evidence a red and black Suzuki Smash, red license No. 13-165, Sriracha.
