Chiang Mai To Chiang Rai

Recommended Posts

Planning an easy-going trip up north and was hoping to get some suggestions for guest houses between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Hopefully something in a scenic area. Off the main (HWY 118) road by 20 minutes or so is fine. All help appreciated.

I would guess that you mean WHOLE pies since you obviously ate something that was good.

Wow, my topic has been hi-jacked by free water and pies! But no mention of Chiang Mai hamburgers, which of course are the best at the Boat since they are tasty and only 25 baht. Ah crap, now I am doing it! Anyway, THANK YOU Nienke! Give Buddy a hug for me!

Thanks Ajarn! Just talked to them, booked a room, and we are ready for pie!

On a side note, we've called five places around Doi Tung for the next night and they are all filled up. Guess the Thai tourists are filling in for the loss of foreign visitors. Finally found a hill tribe home stay about 30 minutes away. At least that area is having a high season.

They are reputed to have great pies on sale and I heard a rumor that there is free cold water with any purchase of something else. :D

UG, as something of a subject-specialist, can you recommend any 2nd-hand book-stores which offer top-quality cold water, either for free or on a 50-%-back return-basis ? :D:o

Gecko Books does have free water and our toilets are free too and we don't even know if browsers are going to buy anything. :o

Clearly a star amongst such establishments !

How many hours can a cheap Limey browse for, before he gets the elbow ? I must pop in for a week, one day ! :D

Try the Mae Chan Winery and resort http://www.maechanwinery.com/

Here is a quote from an email they sent me:

We have the valley tour twice a day at 10.00am and 2.00pm. ....We also can set up the private tour for your group. The minimum persons is 6 persons. The cost per person is 250 baht per person. This includes wine testing, vinyard tour, winery tour, tea plantation tour, tea testing, gem cutting factory tour and all transport within the valley.

The resort guests are normally discounted for the valley tour. The cost per person is 200 baht per person.
