Non- B Visa

I am in a situation now where I am almost needing toleave Thailand because I am near the end of my third month of Tourist Visa's. Does any one know where I could go to get a non B visa, can it be done in Bangkok before my tourist visa runs out?? Any help full info would be appreciated.

I am here with my Thai wife but we are not registered yet, I am wanting a NON- B visa because as I am aware I can come and go as I like for a year. I am not working here, I work offshore but at the moment with the world crisis, work is a bit scarce.

too apply for a Non B you will need a letter from an Employer or a Company in Thailand, A police Clearance from whatever country your from and a Passport valid for at least 6 months.....Non B Visas are generally granted to people working or doing Business in Thailand.....It will be near Impossible to obtain without all of the above...

The information I have provided you could be incorecct but from my exprience obtaining a Non B I had to do all this.

I remember last yearI went to Vientiane, Lao and got a Thai visa it was a category TR and I could come back in any timeso longas I pay a re-entry fee.But I didn't know about the re-entry fee so when I came back it was void.

Here is a list of various types of Non-Immigrant visas (from the Thai Consulate - Vancouver website):

Non-Immigrant Visas

This type of visa is designed for applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom for the following purposes:

to perform official duties (Category "F")

to conduct business / to work (Category "B")

to invest with the concurrence of the Thai Ministries and Government Departments concerned (Category "IM")

to invest or perform other activities relating to investment, subject to the provision of the established laws on investment promotion (Category "IB")

to study, to come on a work study tour or observation tour , to participate in projects or seminars , to attend a conference or training course , to study as a foreign Buddhist monk (Category "ED")

to work as a film-producer, journalist or reporter (Category "M")

to perform missionary work or other religious activities with the concurrence of the Thai Ministries or Government Departments concerned (Category "R")

to conduct scientific research or training or teaching in a research institute (Category "RS")

to undertake skilled work or to work as an expert or specialist (Category "EX")

other activities (Category "O")

(The "Retirement" Visa is a Non-Immigrant O-A)

Most of these visas have certain requirements you have to meet in order to be considered. For example, to qualify for a marriage visa, you have to have a certain amount in the bank, or guaranteed monthly income, or a combination of both that equals a certain amount every year. Plus various documentation of course.

This forum: Thai Visas, Residency, Work Permits has probably all the answers to all the questions you could think of.

From what I've seen, unless you specifically ask for it, most visas are "single entry". You are allowed in, and once you leave, regardless if it's a few hours, days or weeks after arriving, that nullifies the visa.

Double Entry or Multi-Entry visas allow you a little more flexibility to depart and return within the life of the visa, and re-entry permits can be had as well.

You are not legally married. When you are you will have some very good options.

You can go to Penang or KL and get a Multi Entry Non Imm Visa. This would give you up to 15 months in Thailand but would need a border run every 90 days. You can come and go as you please if you want.

You can also get a 12 month extension at Immigration if you meet the financial requirements. 40,000 Baht monthly income OR 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank. You can get a Re Entry Permit to enable you to come and go.

You can also work with the above if you have a Work Permit.

You must get married first.

Hi Steve, I am in a similar position to you, work offshore and live in Thailand. I am not married, but live with girl friend.

I have a 12 month multi entry non-imm O visa, I got this in the UK earlier this year. It is good for 90 day stays at a time.

I had to fill out some forms and give a guarantee that I could support myself when in Thailand, I did not have to show proof of income.

The cost was 110 GBP.

Think you are getting mixed up between Non-imm B visa's and a multiple re-entry permit ?

You need to be on a 12 month extension from Immigration based on Marriage,Retirement,Employment etc.

Which means you have to be Married to a Thai, Retired over 50, Have a job in Thailand etc.

Regardless of the type of visa with which you entered Thailand a re-entry permit will always keep you current period of permission to stay alive. A single-entry re-entry permit costs 1,000 Baht, multiple-entry 3,800 Baht.

You mentioned that you have experience with the tourist visa. Let’s say you enter today, 11 DEC 2008, with a tourist visa and get permission to stay for 60 days, ie until 08 FEB 2009. You get a single-entry re-entry permit, leave Thailand on 16 JAN 2009, return on 25 JAN 2009, enter the details of your re-entry permit on your arrival card and you will receive permission to stay until 08 FEB 2009. The multiple-entry re-entry permit serves the same purpose but allows you an unlimited number of return trips until 08 FEB 2009 and on each return you will receive permission to stay until 08 FEB 2009.

You will have to work it out depending on your travel whether re-entry permits are cost effective or whether back-to-back double-entry tourist visas from Vientiane are better.

P.S. An interesting question would be whether, after entering today with a tourist visa, you could get a 30-day extension of stay, ie until 10 MAR 2009, already tomorrow so that you could get a multiple-entry re-entry permit valid until 10 MAR 2009. I guess that by explaining your travel schedule a sympathetic immigration officer would allow it.
