My wife's sister says the dog was poisioned about a year ago and has this problem that just wont go away. I try to keep the dog away from the house but my wife sister lets it in at night.

She has been given pills for the dog from a vet. The dog leeks stuff all over the place and I have to use bleach and soap to clean the place every morning. I think the dog has some kind of VD but she says No.

I want the dog gone, but being out voted.

might be tvt, a sexually transmitted tumor, very common here.

chemotherapy can help in 98% of cases, it will need 4-7 injections in weekly distance. but to be sure try and see a good vet.

Sorry to sound cruel , but i would put the poor animal out of its misery .

A hard thing to do as it is hard to convince a vet to put any animal down even when it's 100% justified:(

Either way I'd try proper medication first, but you'll need to get the dog to a vet first! And be willing to cover the costs which can be quite substantial.

The payback will be the love you receive from the animal when it pulls through.

I have 7 cats, planned to have only two but kept adopting cats in problems (some sick, 2 very young kittens whose mother died etc...) and it really is like a family now.

Not cheap but love them all to bits....

i know the dog disgusts you but imagine how horrible it must feel! i agree, if you can, take the dog to a vet and see if they can help! i have seen many dogs in much worse states than that one, and though they are like vermin in thailand, it is not their fault and they are very intelligent, sensitive animals. everyone should do what they can do to help whenever possible.

New Information, My wife found out from her sister that the dog is about 12 years and the vet has told her the dogs liver has been damaged from the poison. he has told her the dog will die soon. That was a year ago.

The dog is not mine and my sister inlaw dosn't want to take it back to the vet, she is sure the vet will want to put the dog to sleep. I guess there is nothing I can do without starting a family war. Iam going to stay out of it and try to let the wife handle the problem.

Sorry, doing nothing is the cowards way out. If in fact the dogs liver has been so damaged it is a death sentance, do the decent thing and get it put down, no animal should have to suffer. Question, if you were in this state would you want to live with it?

Sorry, I have to live here, the home is hafe my sister inlaws and if I take matters into my own hands, it would be like a death sentence too me. She knows what has to be done she just don't have the hart to do it.

she raised it from a puppy. Given time, I think my wife can convence her to do the decent thing.

Thank you all for your replies

How is the dog's general health? This 'looks' like a local infection, if the pills are antibiotics how long has the dog been taking tha pills, does the dose need to be increased?

I would get the dog an Elizabethan collar, to prevent the wound being licked - then apply some creams from the vet. (hydrocortisone or anti-fungal)

Has the vet taken a sample of the "leaked stuff" to see what it is?

As for motivation to the family 'owners' of the dog, getting them to understand the distress the dog suffers and further risk to secondary infections from what is a curable situation currently. Explaining that doing nothing when they could be doing more is cruel, as bad as inflecting pain directly. ใจหิน - Jai Hin (maybe a bit strong)

cuban it doesnt look superficial, it looks like bacteria eating up his skin etc...

probably would need two kinds of antibiotics for covering several different bacterias plus creams (u cant use steroids if itis a fungus though); but the dog has liver damage so cannot probably use too many or too much antibiotics... it is 12?

if the dog seems to eat drink and be active and not sit in a corner and be depressed, then the best may be just to let nature take its course, if he is really ill, he will die sooner than later anyway...

sometimes the bother of the intervention is worse then the problem when it comes to animals.... sad but true...

some local cleaning up with saline sprayed/squirted on might reduce some of the 'gunk'; not sure if a 'collar' is such a good idea for an outdoor only dog, cant really defend himslelf which is the reality with thai village dogs...

just general washing him up with the saline a few times a day, may some topical antibiotics/anti inflammatories if it isnt fungal, make sure flies dont get to the open hole that is oozing (could be that there are fly larvae in there already, i took care of a dog with larvae in the area around its penis, looked pretty similar to this i have to say- and the dog did not cooperate either.

a possible wash for a few daYS O of povodine mixed with water, colour of mild tea, could also help a bit...

a swab culture would give a better idea of what would need to be done; most thai dont like euthesia... my husband included when it came time twice for our boxers with cancers and heart disease....

if the dog has liver disease, chances are his appetite will deteriorate and vomitng etc will set in and he will die (for short term relief we give pramin for the nausea but it is a slow way to die also... )

guess no other ideas for now
