I just dont get it. PAD blocks airport and causes untold disruption and distress yet thet now win by having their own PM.

I thought that the democrats were a minority in the parliament so how can a PAD man get the PM's job.

Its no wonder that the red shirts are upset.

The PPP was a minority in the parliament too.

And calling a democrat leader for PADs man is misleading. Just because they don't hate him doesn't mean they love him. He can still erupt their anger in many ways.

tawp thee ppp had 233 vs 167 mp's not enough for a majority but they had the first crack at forming an alliance please get your facts straight

Not enough for majority = a minority of the seats.

What facts is it that I need to check? :o

Police to take legal action against violent red-shirted protesters

BANGKOK: -- Police Monday threatened to take legation action against red-shirted protesters who threw rocks at vehicles leaving Parliament, causing damages and injuries.

Metropolitan Police Commission Pol Lt Gen Suchart Muenkaew said police had take photos and videos of the rowdy protesters and would take actions against them later.

The protesters, who support former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the Pheu Thai Party, turned violent after learning that Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva was elected the prime minister.

They used police's barriers to briefly blocked gates of Parliament. After, broke up the blockade, the protesters waited besides a gate and threw rocks at vehicles, leaving the Parliament compound.

The rocks broke the windshields and windows of several vehicles. Several people, including a reporter, were injured.

Suchart said police managed to control the situation after the protesters dispersed from in front of Parliament and regrouped at Sanam Luang.

Maybe the best course of action would be for the red shirts to threaten to take action against the Police for encouraging this coup!

Theres a case to be made though for the police.... unlike the Army who really has let the people down.

All major news outlets pointing out the irony of the Democrats finally getting a bit of power by non-democratic means and aligning itself with the Newin Faction.

How desparate this "Intelegentsia" :o:D must be to stage two coups, rig elections, change constitutions, appoint their lackey judges to ensure two party disbandments and then put their blue eyed boy in power with the help of this mobster.

Perhaps the writing is on the wall for this fascist inspired PAD coup, perhaps they lost more money and support than they meant to with the un-hinged Sondhi and his amazing spiritual tampax!

What they really need now is for Head Puppet Abhisit to get them some nice tax payers money to make it all better and ensure they stay richer than the people they so love to oppress.

Yes the behaviour of the reds compared to the yellows is quite interesting and speaks volumes......

More like libraries for later analysis by academics looking for doctorates in mob though patterns.

Which one was lead to a result, and which one was let off the chain to create chaos?

Fore Man>>At this point Thaksin will be able to say 'never use violence' and not have to worrie, the issue is so flammable that he can count on the most die hard fans to use it anyway. And he can claim reasonable deniability of infusing any violence into the events taking place.

Yep sounds about right;

Plausible deniabilitiy.

Follow the money....

The PPP had the larger minority position,

so was allowed to create the government by coalition.

When they COULD NOT do that recently,

then the second largest minority

was able to do the coalition and pass it by vote.

That is parlementary procedure as practiced in dozens of countries.

A larger minority has first crack at creating a majority coalition,

but if it fails to, next shot goes to next largest party.

2007 Elections:

480 total seats. 241 need to claim a majority.

PPP = 233

Democrats = 165

Chart Thai = 37

Puea Pandin = 24

(3 other parties) = 21

Due to the number of MPs that were affected by recent court rulings, defections from the PPP to the Democrats, and others switching sides, the Democrats now have enough seats in their coalition to form a government, and have their leader chosen as the latest Prime Minister.

How long this lasts of course is anybody's guess. I'd say that a lot of favours are going to have to be handed out to the defecting MPs and side-switchers, or the coalition will collapse in a hurry.

What happens after that ? Chaos of course.

It would be, but the key "threatend to take action".... I don't think they will.

They should have taken action against PAD, just as they should take action against the people that caused damage yesterday.

And who knows maybe they will still go after the PAD leaders and jail them for their actions at the airport?

+1

The "yellows" didn't injure that many people as far as I recall. They are the ones who got grenaded (tear gas AND military grenades), shot at, rammed into, bombed...

Well, basically just middle and lower class people in Thailand...

When PAD blockaded the parliament there were no injuries to the MPs, there were no reports even of attempts to physically attack them.

The violence was between PAD and police.

Go Away PLUS.

Stop your hatred and allow the new Government a chance to make Thailand better place for all, even people like you who is only happy if you can cause to spread your hatred.

Peace and success be with the new government.

Did you allow the previous democratically elected governments a chance...what a shame.. :o

Unfortunately that would require someone making a decision. The trouble with making a decision is that someone else might not agree and you would be over-ruled and then sent to count stamps in the stationary cupboard. Letting someone else, or even better a committee, make the decision means they will arrest the right people, the ones that don't have embarrasingly high placed friends and can be easily identified.

Wonder how they will know where to go to pick-up the ones identified as suitable for arrest?

Policing is very subjective in Thailand.

In a more perfunctory country, if someone breaks the law, and a policeman is on hand to make an arrest, then the lawbreaker would likely be arrested and charged.

In Thailand, there are a whirl of extenuating circumstances - most of which hinge on who the perpetrator is / what sort of social strata he/she represents. Circumstance is also predicated on the mood of the officer on duty, the mood of the crowd on the scene (which relates to this thread), and whether there might be a pay-off available.

:)I am guessing that the "Journalist" didn't think this one through ... how exactly would the police when outnumbered by a mob make these multiple arrests without resorting to shooting?

In situations where mobs are being destructive the first priority is to protect lives, then property THEN and only then to apprehend people.

I did not know that people arrested in thailand where first shot :o They must go through allot of bullets every year :D

Other countries do it errr arrest with out shooting :D , maybe the Thia police need riot control training.... the protest numbers were really small that day and should not have been an issue for the police to control.

You were right. The yellow were not arrested. They were just maimed and killed by the "tear gas" on Oct 7, because...(like people of you ilk have always said) the yellow are just simply "above the law."
