I've visited the States many times and always found the general public to be among the most friendly, hospitable people I've met ....

...and the girls love our British accent :o

Like ours better! :D

Where are you from, chuchok? - I mean, your original country

Kiwi mate.

Ah, well, that explains it - near enough to a Brit accent then. :D

That they do, RDN

Especially a Scots accent - makes 'em swoon every time. :D

So long as it's generally a Highland Scots accent. The street-Glaswegian tone can be a little rough... :o

The definite Anti-American sentiment is there. It is not directed to the individuals, although they may suffer from it in some cases.

I is even not directed to the population in general.

It is directed to the policies of the USA past and present. The unstated (it may even be stated somewhere by somebody) overall policy is to dominate in all aspects of life. It is the arrogance of a government that feels it can impose its beliefs on the rest of the world. That it can do as its like, commits whatever atrocities unscated and rejects by action and word human rights and civil liberties, not accepting any critique however constructive intended.

You are right. As it was in the days of the British Empire, the Roman Empire, The Greek, Ottoman, Egyptian... etc. etc. etc. It has been the nature of the human animal for millenia. We cannot seem to accept that 'OUR' way is not neccessarily the 'BEST' way... that our belief system is no more valid than the belief systems of others. Political and religious beliefs are rammed down the throats of the weak and defenseless.... and so it goes on....

Alas... civilization is a long, long way off.

Yes, I see both of your points, but the more I learn, the more I tend to agree that all past empires had to face defeat and watch others rise. It seems to be the rule of nature. But I don't agree that civilization is a long way off. I think a hard reality that many don't like to admit is that it is the function of all states is to look out for their own self-interests. How they do so depends on whether they have had to face defeat as a global power yet or not. Just my theory.

Females in America might favor a Sean Connery type...but not the dorkie dude in the movies with Julia Roberts :o

I'm English and spent three months in the US and the amount of times I was asked to "Just say something" was uncanny.

America is a country formed,

Nothing against you mbkudu.

Here's one thing that really twists my spinewhen for example I hear Bush saying " Here in Amercuh..."

America is NOT a country!

There is a South, Central and North America, the latter being the one which the United States are part of along with Canada.

I just hate this habit of people saying America when refering to the U.S. :o

When taxi drivers took off, they were saying things like:

Think the US OF A believes it owns the Americas.South of the border is considered either Club Med or sources of cheap labor to pick the apples and lettuce for rich US OF Americans.Americans can't find Canada on a map.

And Americanism is not really a word.It should be globalization.

Ism's are beliefs and there is no Frenchism,Italianism,Thaiism, etc.

If they WANTED to NOW, they could OWN Canada <snip> they could very likely demolish China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and any other nuclear power

I forgot that they don't teach the wars the US has lost in US schools: but the last time the US declared war on Canada was 1812 and the offensive actions of the United States failed in every attempt to capture it.

The US could probably attack and cause major problems in China, India Pakistan and North Korea. Look at the flow of the Jet stream and give your head a shake. Look at the current fiscal policies of the US and see to whom they owe the majority of their deficit... China. India is taking lots of US jobs and it will only be a matter of time that the US has it's own meltdown, just as Rome, France, England Japan and Germany have done before.

If you have the biggest stick but not enough strength to lift it, it does not account for squat.

Ohhh one more thing.

If the USA invaded Canada, would the Canadians defending their country be called Insurgents or Freedom fighters on CNN?

Feel free to substitute Iraq for Canada and Iraqi for Canadian. ..eh

and on a serious note...

Over the holiday we should all take a second to think of the families of all those Killed in armed conflicts all over the world in the past year irespective of religion, race or counrty of origin.

You cannot compare the Roman, Greek, British empires to the destructive power of the USA, not even remotely, there is no comparison.

I wasn't comparing the destructive power of weaponry but the destructive power of these countries own ego and greed. History does repeat itself.

Most people I talk to have never heard of the Carlyle Group and have no ideas about what it does and who's involved. Former Defense Secretary Frank Carlucci is Carlyle’s chairman and managing director who, by the way, was college roommate of Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld. The Carlyle Group is privately-held and doesn’t have to reveal information about its partners or investments to anyone.

The US is not about to push the button because it would instantly stop the flow of government spending into businesses like Carlyle who like this cash cow the way it is. With former president Bush, Ramos of the Phillipines and Majors of the UK to name a few. you know they only want to line their own pockets. Wars and conflicts make money for military suppliers.

It's globalization and nothing else. But rogue states like North Korea and Iran really put a kink in the hose, because they are not getting a slice of the pie.... Yet.

Ravisher -- People don't do anything, That's the problen, They don't think, They just blindly follow the leader. The majority are herded to the slaughter, quite willingly. The Nazis figured that one out.

Rogue states like N. Korea who's exports consist only of narcotics & missles - Iran's exports of Terrorists. Great folks, them... :o

Todays Enemies are often Tomorows Allies.

The day we become allies with that spoiled little pervert prince running north korea I will personally go to Ottawa and give the PM a wedgie.

It's one thing to oppose US policies (which I do), it's another to embrace a psychopath just because he too disagrees.

Utter ridiculousness.

Its nearly 100 posts now, and nobody has converted anybody around to their point of view, and I doubt ever will. This thread has lost all its relation to Thailand, and it's attracting morons to the board. What say we agree to disagree and let the thread die?

I agree as well... Cause if Vic has a good arm he can probably lob a rock from Victoria to Sechelt and hit me on the head...

As a final note... Americans are actually a good lot and I'm sure that next month when we are in Hawaii I'll be defending the position of us from the north who refused to join them.

I was in Narita airport yesterday going through the line at security. The security official monitoring the 'line' said, "Ok, now make three lines. He pointed at me and a couple others and said, "Move, move." So I did. I hear from behind me a course voice that had a very familiar sound, say, "I've really got issues with people who cut in line!" I said, "Why don't you ask the fellow with the nice gun over there what he would like me to do then." The guy was all red faced and drunk and just kept it up. I told him not to worry; we'll all make our flights. A woman told him that the official told me to move on and he should just shut the fukc up. Leave it to a woman to grab the bull by the balls when it needs to be done. He finally got the message an piped down.

It made me wonder why the fukc I was even bothering to go home; there will just be hundreds of thousands more of these jackasess where he comes from. Thank god we're NOT all the same.

Right mbkudu, If we were all the same how boring life would be. The thing that makes Life so wonderful is its Diversity. :o

Believe me Ravisher, if there were fewer <deleted> like him, life would be so much more wonderful. :D

I still don't quite understand TV's quote box system.
