Tourist visa now available in Phnom Penh

Recommended Posts

God this whole visa business is confusing!

Regarding the fee, I didn't have any Baht on me so didn't ask if it could be paid in that instead of dollars.

Just to make sure I've got this right, if my expiry date is the 23 March, that means that to get another 2 months I have to leave and re-enter Thailand before or on the 23 of March, is that correct? So if I left Thailand for Laos on the 22 of March and then decided to hang around there a couple of weeks and returned on the 5 of April, I wouldn't get another 2 months, right?

I was thinking of staying in Cambodia for another month, but it seems as though the 6 months is already ticking down, and I would have to leave and re-enter Thailand after only 2 months if I did decide to stay.

Thanks

You will have to enter no later than the 22nd March or your Visa will expire. Assuming your Visa says "Enter before 23 March"

Vientiane only issues 2 entry tourist visa with 90 day use before dates.

For most people it is irrelevant, but according to one report awhile back they will issue as many entries as you want but the visa will still only be valid for 90 days.

I contacted the bus service and they currently only have the 5am one. This is too early for me as I would have to leave my room at 4.20am. I am wondering if anyone's been on it or not. The girl on phone said that the TV shows movies, but wondering if its possible to sleep or not?

Also is it full of drunks because really I think the only way for me to catch it is to stay up drinking? Any reports of things getting stolen while sleeping? Sorry to sound negative...

  • 2 weeks later...

I just got Single Entry 60 Day Tourist Visa in PP; 13 Jan 09. The easiest Visa I've ever got in my 7 years in Asia. 15 minutes from filling in the form to picking it up the next day. They want minimal info on the form; just personal data such as on your passport and home address, no need to fill in the other slots, one photo, USD$35 and they give change! They say to come back the next day between 3 and 4 PM, but I gotthere at 2:3)PM and it was ready, just had to ask for it. BEWARE of the scammer Camodian Guard by the gate; he asks for and extra USD$15 to get it done and in yuour hands at the same time you get it any way.

You got to submit the application in the morning from 8:30AM to 12:30PM Mon - Fri.

This seems to be the same for "western nationals", a Ghanian I met had to pay USD$300 and furnish lots of fincial and guarantor data.

I just got a tourist visa (30 day) from PP and under number of entries it was stamped "S" (I am assuming that means single entry) but when I crossed over to Thailand they gave me 60 days. Should I assume I just caught the border person in a good mood and keep my mouth shut...I don't think it is a 2x entry as I only paid for 1x

You definitely obtained a single entry tourist visa.

A single entry (S) tourist visa is valid for 90 days from when it is issued. When you arrive in Thailand you are entitled to 60 days. You can extend this for a further 30 days at any immigration office in Thailand.

Can you just imagine all these border post immigration officials and the money they make, on both sides, by this circus that farangs are subjected to. The posters here don't seem to mention the fees they pay to enter the countries that host these Thai consulates. One does not enter Laos for free, nor Cambodia, nor Myanmar. It all adds up and thousands of Thai and neighboring citizens are living off this condition. A note: The Thai consulate in Los Angeles has no information on "free" visas on their web site, does not return email or phone requests for information, and rejects all photos when applying for a visa as not correct so they can send you across the street to get new photos from a well connected friend with a polaroid--a visit to Thailand starts at the Consulate!!!!

Welcome to ThaiVisa.

The fees for entering some neighbouring countries of Thailand are so commonly known that it is not necessary to mention them in every post but you are wrong. These fees are mentioned quite often.

LA is not the only consulate and for sure not the best. Honorary consulates will accept mail in applications and most don't care where you live so you can choose anyone you want.

Use the pull down menu at the top of this page from the DC embassy website to get a list of them.

I did a border run to Cambodia on Thursday with my regular service to activate the 2nd entry of a double entry TV obtained in Vientiane. The owner of the business was on the van with us. I asked him about the present situation re visa at Phnom Penh. He said that the ambassador had been changed and was "open for business" but the cost of running the operation made it unattractive to him. From that I deduced that Jack has cut the price to the bare minimum. A good friend of mine took the Jack trip to Cambodia the same day. He said all was fine but he was rather bored during the two night stay at the hotel in Poipet but otherwise was very satisfied with the service, the price included vouchers for bf and dinner in the hotel which he was pleased with. He only applied for a single entry so I have no comment to make as to the possibility of double entry or 2x single entry visas. I feel I might try this run next time as my friend's description of his stay in the hotel sounds favourable to the long bus rides to Laos and back from BKK even if the price seems a little steep. I will post when I return.Hope to hear from anyone else with reports of the Jack Golf trip. Thx in advance.

Me and my girlfriend got 60 days tourist visas without any problems today. Applied yesterday and picked up the passports today. All we needed was a picture and to fill out the application, no questions asked.

Good

Did you get single or 2 entry visas.

Understood...thanks...but where is all this old news that jst was posting about? I've never heard of anyone doing double entry tourist visas from Poipet.

This is how it has been described in this topic:

1. The visarun company brings you to a hotel in Poipet, probably in the casino zone, where you stay for two nights.

2. The visarun company takes your passport, gets your visa for Cambodia, carries your passport to Phnom Penh, gets a double-entry tourist visa stamped in your passport, carries your passport back to you at the hotel in Phnom Penh.

3. The visarun company brings you back to Thailand to where you started the trip with them.

Basically, a messenger service from Poipet to Phnom Penh while you spend two nights at a hotel in Poipet.

Thanks for that!

That sounds like a very good idea.

My last visa run to Vientiane for 2 (one Australian, one Filipino (no Laos visa required)) cost at a total of at least 17,000 from Pattaya. That included a budget of 1,000 per night (2 nights) accommodation in Vientiane. 18,000 (9000 x 2) would be ok for me considering it would be a much more relaxing (if not a little boring in comparison) visa run without having to waste hours at the consulate and taking minivans, buses and tuktuks all over the place.

I wonder if jst's info on the cost of (about) 9,000 for this service included travel to Poipet, and if so are these services available from Pattaya at that price. Did this price also include the $20 visa for Cambodia? If it does, then I could probably knock the price down a bit as my Filipino gf does not require a Cambodian visa.

Jst! You have Mail!

I am living just a few kilometers away from Aranyaprathet, but i really hate to travel with the bus in the sh*thole Phnom Penh, stay there 2 nights and then go back.

Is there a trustworthy so called messenger service directly accessible in Poipet?

If so.....it should be quite cheaper. A double entry is $70........so why pay 1000% more??? (without all the extras of course)

Any suggestions?

Don't look at the percentage markup, look at the cost compared to doing it yourself. A bus trip for me from Pattaya to PP would be out of the question so I'd to compare it with the cost of flying from BKK to PP.

Without having all the details at this stage, that price probably includes transportation to and from BKK or Pattaya, Cambodian visa plus accommodation for 2 nights.

I'll wait for all the details before I make a final cost analysis.

OK, so we've established that as a result of the recent change of policy at the Thai Consulate in Phnom Penh a new business has just begun in Poipet.

Specifically: Transporting visa applicants to Poipet and arranging a "fixer" to go to Phnom Penh to arrange a shiny new double-entry tourist visa while the applicants relax in a Casino Hotel for 2 nights.

For this service ex-Pattaya the agents are charging about 9,500 baht.

It's a bit more than what I would pay to do it myself in Vientiane including flying to Udon.

The advantages are less travel time and no stress. It seems a very worthwhile alternative.

Doing a rough calculation and assuming a hotel charge of 1000 baht per night (I have no idea of the cost of hotels in Poipet) the agent is charging an extra 3000 - 4000 baht for his services. I travel with my gf who also needs a visa, so I'm paying an agent around 8000 in service fees. They're making good money!

We may be able to find an agent in Poipet who can arrange this instead of going through a Pattaya visa agent.

If anyone can help me with some contacts it would be much appreciated.
