Tourist visa now available in Phnom Penh

Recommended Posts

Hi tropo,

please keep us informed bout that one.

I am sure that they have 2 or 3 services in Poipet. The law of competition i think :-)

If you get the prices and conditions, please share the info.

Cheers

Ricci

It will probably be a matter of going with an agent in order to make personal contact with the "fixers" in Poipet. I won't be going until May so I have some time up my sleeve.

I just costed the flights from Bangkok to Phnom Penh on AirAsia, and unless you're lucky to catch a spot discount fare on the day you need to go, the price averages over 6,000 baht return. Add 2,500 ($70) for the tourist visa, a Cambodian visa ($20 at airport) plus accommodation and transport around Phnom Penh, plus travel from Pattaya to BKK and back, and 9,500 is a bargain.

Unless I can find something cheaper, I'll probably end up going with that. If a person is really motivated to save money of course they always could bus it to Phnom Penh and apply in person.

not really a trip report since I am going to try to get a double entry TV from PP next month but my friend just got back from PP and he was only given single entry. He applied for double but he said that some woman told him that they could only get a single.

Like I said this doesnt prove anything in either direction but it is kind of worrying since I have already booked my flights and the reports in this thread made it sound like a hasslefree process.

Anyone else been there in the last 1-2 weeks that could confirm this in either direction?

It would be good to know what country he is from. People from some countries only can only get single entry visas.

As of today, the agencies in town are still offering double entry visa trips to Poipet. This is not proof that it can still be done of course because even the agents are sometimes caught with their pants down due to rapid changes in consulate issuing policies.

Well, it's 2800B to PP on Asiaair.com, 2500B for the two visas, 500 for one night in a hotel plus 1000B. Rip Off! You put in your forms one day and pick up the next, takes about an hour incl. taxis, total. I did it in Jan 09.

Go by bus and save 3000B and have 3 days in Sihanoukvile! Otres Beach is superb and cheap.

I booked my tickets to PP a bit over a month ago when we still thought getting a double would be hassle free. Now that it looks like it is not what should my plan be there?

I am flying there this weekend and will have a trip report for you guys by tuesday.

I read from the other thread that people use agents that get the visa for you. Are there any reliable ones in PP i could use (most importantly to secure a double since otherwise i am losing so much money and time for a single i could get easier and closer anyway).

Anyways, whether there is a plan or not, i will provide a trip report from there soonish

You are really asking the wrong person. I am a firm believer in do it yourself. If anything goes wrong you only have yourself to blame. Be it Visas for me or a Visa for my Wife to Visit England. I take care or it.

You are only going for a Tourist Visa. You do not need and agent.

"You may only apply for single"

The process was fast and simple. Get an application from the booth outside, fill it out and give it back to the guy inside the booth who gives you a number. Go inside and wait for your turn. I only had to wait 5mins. Handed in passport and the application with one photo. I applied for 2 entries but after the woman saw that she told me "You may only apply for single here". I asked if I could pay for double and she said no. She didnt want any money and told me to come back 3pm tomorrow.

So no double entry tourist visas from Phnom Penh at the moment.

No double entry for those who are not using the visa run service, i guess..

Any update on the current situation with double entry tourist visas?

BTW, I see no banners advertising Phnom Penh tourist visa run in pattaya.

Since it was not explicitly mentioned before (or I missed it): Single Tourist Visa in Phnom Penh is free of charge at the moment - a sign inside the embassy says this is until 4th of june (if I remember correctly) and applies to single entry only (Phnom Penh doesn't give doubles at the moment anyway).

Short report on my visa run from April 2nd/3rd 2009 (no agency involved): I arrived at the embassy on Thursday at about 9:30, got my application form from outside at the booth, filled everything in (no sponsor; tried 2x tourist and 60 days x2), got my ticket from the same booth, went inside and was called immediately, handed in my form, passport and photos, 'you may apply for single entry only', 'ok, thank you', got my receipt that says pickup at '3-4 p.m.' next day. No fee paid!

Next day I arrived a bit late at 4 p.m., went to the counter with my receipt (no queue) and was handed out the passport with the visa which says 'fee 0 . Done.

Btw

Staff was not overly helpful but in no way unfriendly.

If you come with your own motorbike you can park outside the embassy for 1000 riel ($ 0.25), second time I insisted paying only 500 since I was inside the embassy for only 5 minutes. Embassy is easy to find since it is on Norodom Blvd., one of the main roads in PP.

After my Visa Run last week I thought about how to 'improve' the experience (in terms of convenience and costs):

  • Anybody knows how to get 'express service' in Phnom Penh, meaning apply in the morning and pick up the same day? It might be worth some extra money to spare one day if you have been to PP before and don't want to hang around there.
  • Is it possible to cross the border in Poipet in the morning right after it opens at 7:00am and catch the bus to PP from the bus station - the buses all leave in the morning, the last one at 8:00am afaik. How many people are there usually when the border opens? There are seperate queues for foreigners at the Thai side so that should not be a problem. What about the Cambodian exit stamp? I don't remember seperate queues there. (I live not too far from the border so I could be there that early easily.) Anybody has experience being at the border that early? Anybody ever took the direct bus to PP in the morning?
Btw: There is a lot of bus companies going PP to Poipet directly for just about 8 $. The bus goes via Battambang and the trip takes about 7-8 hrs. You can leave at 8:00 and still catch one of the buses going to BKK (or book the whole trip to BKK from PP with Paramount Express leaving at 6:30, costs unknown). The problem with going the other direction (Poipet - PP) is that the last bus leaves at 8:00am. During the day you have to take a shared taxi to Siem Reap or Battambang and catch an onward bus from there (the last ones leaving at about 14:00pm from either cities), which is not only more troublesome since you have to deal with the taxi mafia in Poipet but also at least twice the price of the direct bus ticket.

Thanks for any help/advice.

Not sure but it looks like most folks would feel Jack Golf is the best way to go at 6,000B,

60 days Thai Tourist Visa, Cambodia Visa, Transportation, All Meals, Accommodation (Twin Room), Border Entrance Fee, Guide Assistance, Insurance, etc.

If you're in or near Bangkok, where their bus leaves, this is the best deal... no?

Well, you replied to a post from April 2009, but thank you nevertheless. :)

I guess the offer is not bad, however, I don't live in Bangkok and usually use my own car to get to the border.

Last time I contacted an agent at the border directly to have the visa done in Phnom Penh and stayed in the Casino area for 2 nights, see my report here.

Costs were 1500 THB for the visa service (I personally think this is as cheap as it can get), plus 2 nights at 800 THB/night excl. bf incl. 500 THB chips, 850 THB for the visa (evisa).

Btw I think there is a second company advertising in the Bangkok Post, but never used the services of either one.

Just contact a agent name 'All Japan" that advertised in Japanese language free newspaper. They promise can get double tourist visa in PP. Tour start at 3am from Bangkok, arrive border about 8am and stay one night in border casino hotel, go back bangkok the next day after getting the visa. Price is 5500b until visa fee waive period. I think it is cheaper if I go by myself and can get an agent in border that can make double visa. It is alright to stay 2 nights instead of 1 night. Is it easy to spot an agent in the border? any suggestion?

You have no way of knowing if visa is valid or not - and even if from a legal stamp at the Embassy in PP the method involved in issue makes it highly suspect. As it has been reported there are illegal stamps being used in that area I would not advise anyone to risk such action to avoid a trip to PP or anther Consulate and obtaining themselves.
