Hi all, just got a 1 2 call sim, and seem to be burning through credit like crazy. Texts seem to be costing me about 20bt or 30bt each which seems a bit much?

I found a page on the company site that said something about buying sim packages, so tried it out with the 10 text package, but i seem to have subscribed to getting 10 sms free a month for 15bt, moreover those sms's dont seem to include international texting, so I'm back to square 1, any ideas?

Thanks!

nb, I'm texting UK and USA

-oh, and whats the deal exactly with dialing 005 before the call?

Not entirely sure, but I think I pay 11 Baht per sms to most of Europe.

The cheap sms packages you can subscribe to obviously don't include international texting. Don't forget that the US or UK mobile phone operators charge AIS for every text sent from their network, so AIS has to recoup those costs from their customers.

This said, I reckon between 10 and 20 Baht per SMS should be the normal tariff, depending on the country you're texting to...

Use Skype to send SMSs to the UK or US. It's a lot cheaper and they'll still look exactly like they came from your Thai mobile and people will be able to reply (to your Thai mobile).

Get rid of 12Call, it's ...rubbish. Use HAPPY and pay 5 baht per text msg to International destinations.

Got to agree. DTAC / Happy is way ahead of AIS in this but as stated, you can use Skype which will look like your mobile but it is more expensive than DTAC I think.

My wife has a friend who owns a phone shop, she says the Happy is cheaper, but doesn't have good coverage outside of Bangkok. 12Call is more expensive, but has better coverage especially all through Isaan.

I've had Happy / DTAC for perhaps 6 years and there are no issues in any areas I travel to including Bangkok, Isaan (Buriram, Surin etc.), Samui, Phuket, Krabi, Singapore, London, (yes, abroad too).

Apparently there were issues years ago but I have not experienced any in the last few years of that I am certain. I've always had DTAC as I would not give one satang to that robbin' Toxin when he had AIS.

Just switched to 12call because I was getting off and on coverage in Ratchaburi and west near Burma. Get good signal with AIS.

If you can use your pc to send messages rather than the mobile, costs to the UK are 5 cents using voipraider.com and from the Uk to Thailand 3 cents

Several years ago, AIS had much better coverage upcountry than Dtac. I use AIS and my wife uses Dtac. In places where I had a decent signal, she had no signal. Today, she has as good a signal as I have nearly everywhere. Dtac has greatly improved their coverage.

That is for international calls and is not that cheap. Don't use it use 009 in front much cheaper.

Does Happy even work on International Roaming like most other prepaid cards yet? Last time I checked (over a yr ago) the service seemed very poor. Any update please? Other than this and especially within Thailand Happy is tops for value for money.

Hi there~ as we all know, international calls nowadays shouldn't be as expensive as before the invention of voip. Therefore, I suggest purchasing a international calling card to make international calls cuz it's alot cheaper! usually less than 1baht/min calling to USA and many other countries~ There are many international calling card providers but i suggest using Easy Card. You can find more information by searching "easy telecom" on yahoo or google ~ I've used it several times and the quality is good~ I've suspended my international call service from AIS cuz its a real money burner~ Hope this helps~
