Hi,

I currently have a 15 day visa as I came overland from Malaysia - I hadn't realised the rules had changed from 30 days for visa exemption.

I need to extend this without doing a visa run, can I apply for a 60 day visa now that I'm in the country? I can get to the Koh Samui immigration check point easily. My flight out of Thailand leaves in the middle of February, though I don't plan on being in Thailand for the whole time (travelling overland).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The only extension possible is 7 days.

You can make a border run and get 15 days. Flying out and back will give you 30 days.

Go to a nearby consulate and get a tourist visa. It will a you a 60 days stay and can be extended for 30 days. You can get a re-entry permit at immigration that will allow you to leave and re-enter without loosing your entry on the tourist visa. When you re-enter you would be allowed to stay until your original permit to stay ends.

You can get a 2 entry tourist visa in Kota Bharu Malaysia or a single entry from Penang,

Ubon Joe,

Thank you for the information about the 7 day extension option on the 15 day entry permit.

I will be taking a group of American students from Thailand to Laos and then from Laos back to Thailand, crossing at the border near Phakse. Our program has us in Thailand for 19 days after our return from Laos. So a 7 day extension on the 15 day entry stamp would be very helpful.

Could you let me know where to apply for the 7 day extension? Is this something we can handle in Bangkok? Would that enable the group to stay in Thailand for 22 days after a land re-entry to Thailand? It sounds right, but I just want to be sure since I have a group of students to think about.

Much appreciate it.

You will entering at Chong Mek its not far from where I live.

Yes the permit to stay can be extended for 7 days in Bangkok or any immigration office.

The cost will be 1900 baht and 1 photo is needed. Also having their tickets out of the country with you will help.
