December 26, 200817 yr My wife and I normally go back to England once a year to visit family, and renew my Non-Imm B Multi (which I had before we married). My wife is pregnant (and does not wish to fly long haul) so we have decided this year to renew locally, also I am feed up with doing business in Thailand (and don't intend buying any more land etc., so a "B" has no real benefit any longer) so I am going to switch to an "O", I could apply for an extension but for two reasons... 1. I have left it too late, Visa expired two and a half months ago, and my last entry stamp expires 10th Jan. 2. I haven’t paid tax recently (well for the last year in fact ). Due to the political mess the country is in, my company hasn't made a profit since the last election, I have been keeping my company afloat and living off my savings, so I have not paid myself officially, to do so would mean paying tax on money already declared/transferred from abroad, so in essence paying tax twice, which I refuse to do. As such I have no tax returns to show... My first choice would be Laos as it's relatively close, I can easily drive myself there, but it's my understanding that Laos will not issue Non-Imms, only tourist Visas, is this correct? So the only real local option left is Malaysia, in particular Kuala Lumpur, as I don't need an agent there, and we can fly from Chiang Mai. Is this a correct appraisal, or am I over looking other options? (I could always fly to England alone, but without my mate its not the same )
December 26, 200817 yr I assume your wife is Thai and you are legally married? If so there have been recent good reports from KL. You will need: Copy of Marriage certificate Copy of wife's id card Copy of wife's Thai passport, if available. Copy of bank book, preferably with 400K baht That should do the trick.
December 27, 200817 yr Always a good idea to take a letter from your Wife asking them to issue the Visa. If she will not be going with you.
December 27, 200817 yr If you are able to show 400,000 baht in the bank you could still get a one year extension based on marriage. It just has to be in the bank for 60 days. If need more time to do it you can also go to immigration and get a 60 day extension to visit your wife. See 2.18 for 1 year and 2.24 for 60 day extension of this police order. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/post-a70477-...ember-2008.html
December 27, 200817 yr Author Thanks for your help guys, especially the sixty day extension, that could come in very handy, if they will play ball of course.
December 27, 200817 yr If you are in Chiang Mai it should not be a problem to get the extension. Take the wife along when you apply You will need copy your marriage certificate, wifes house book and ID. Plus your passport copies. Photo page, visa and entry/permit to stay stamps and TM6.
January 12, 200917 yr Author Went on the 9th, no problem at all. Thanks Joe When the head honcho handed my passport back, he said in Thai "Come and see me again before it runs out" (just got the 60 day for now), so I assume there is no limit to the number of back to back extensions you can get?
January 14, 200917 yr The 60-day extension “to visit Thai wife” is a one-time only extension. After that, if you meet the financial criteria, you can apply for an annual extension “to live with Thai wife”. A new annual extension can then be made every year, back to back. Apply any time during the last 30 days of the permission to stay, preferably not waiting until the last week. -- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
