If anyone on TV have travelled with Thai Airways and their direct flight BKK to LAX I would be grateful for info regarding aircraft (new or old), seating in economy class and a general review.

Thanks. :o

Done is many times...I seem to recall it is a long range 340 done to TG specifications. I heard rumors that TG was dropping this direct flight. Best you run it down with TG directly or visit their website.

As noted above, the 340-500 has fairly decent seating, even when compared to other major Asian carriers' economy - good legroom (36" vs. 31" to 34" on other Asian airlines) and nice audio/video on demand. Premium economy gives you slightly wider seats and 6 inches more legroom. I enjoyed my Thai Air flights on the JFK-BKK nonstop very much, but Korean Airlines has proven to be a pretty decent - and less expensive - replacement.

Great airline, flew on the A340-500 to LAX in August but I did hear that they will change to the 777 with a stop over in Japan (I think).

I heard somewhere that there was some disappointment with its efficiency on the legs to LAX and New York . Could have been the fuel prices too.

Its too bad because I like the Premium Economy class that they offer; sets were nice and the cabin wasn't so busy like in economy.... To be honest, the secluded cabin made the upgrade worth it, it just felt more relaxed.. Usually its around 200 USD more.. I think I got a higher % of miles flying in that class as well.. 105 or 110% or something like that.

Had a LOT to do with the fuel prices. They were going to stop the flight earlier but after the fuel price dropped they kept it going a while longer. They also had a very tough time selling the A340-500 aircraft they purchased specifically for the nonstop USA routes. They are now using those aircraft around the network to fill the gaps (try and get premium economy seat for free) and continuing with LAX. its even possible a last minute announcement to maintain LAX past march considering the fuel price has dropped so low now.

the new flight is a 777-200ER via Osaka , slower trip but still has new economy and business class with PTV's in all classes. sadly no premium economy though.
