Driving To Isaan For New Years, Traffic?

Featured Replies

We're running late and won't be leaving to Surin until the early morning of the 1st of January, what is the ideal time to leave in your experience to avoid traffic?

In the US I'd guess traffic would be low then, but in Thailand it's my understanding that many ppl will be late due to work days and additionally the New Years celebrations go beyond the 1st.

Thanks in advance.

Everyone has left already so anytime after tonight would be good

Don't know when you were last this way (Surin) but I arrived about a week ago. Prior to that it was last Songkron and on this trip I was pleasantly surprised that highway 24 is now finished and a smooth 4 lane (2 each direction).... enjoy the trip and be safe....

wow that's great news :o unless someone else tells me otherwise we're going to depart at 3:30am. We left last year for Surin at peak hours unfort and it was a nightmare (although this was also peak departure days, like 28th-29th?). This year we'll be leaving a few hours after new years. I still expect some hefty traffic though, just nothing like we got caught in last time.
