i might sound selfish but ive just heard about the happings in phuket

im due to arrive in pattaya on the 7 jan should i or will i need to alter flights hotels etc

i know it sounds selfish and of course i wish any one involved in the disaster well but i feel its something i must ask while i still have time to alter anything

Pattaya has not been affected by the Tsunami. There have been reports of slight tremors in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but I didn't feel anything here...I was sound asleep!

One of the most devestating effects of the Bali bombing was the economic loss to ordinary people caused when tourists stopped coming there. It would be very tragic if people like yourself chose not to come to Thailand out of fear.

Unless the government of Thailand says not to come (and given the distance from Phuket to Bangkok and Pattaya I think that unlikely) you should be very safe continuing your plans.

Have a fabulous time, it's a great place with mostly wonderful people.

You may want to make sure your reservations are firm in case Pattaya gets a big influx of tourists from Phuket who choose not to leave Thailand, and those inbound may redirect themselves to Pattaya from their original target of Phuket.

Good advice from cdnvic, rather than alter your plans, confirm them.

I will be heading home on the 31st and have no fears, have a look at a map of the region and you will see how well protected from possible after shocks etc Pattaya is.

Confirm with credit card- that way you are guaranteed. I dare say Pattaya will be getting a bulk of the tourist trade now due to the disaster in Phuket.
