PHATTHALUNG, Jan 3 (TNA) - The governor of Phatthalung on Saturday declared four districts of this southern province as a disaster zone and an emergency relief centre has been set up to help flood victims.

Provincial governor Suthep Komonpamorn said the situation remains worrisome as run-off from Bantad mountain inundated 11 subdistricts in the four districts of Pa Bon, Khao Chai, Bang Kaew and Ta Mode.

Many houses and much farmland remains under floodwaters as deep an one metre, leaving numbers of villagers stranded as some roads have been cut.

The governor said he requested urgent help from the regional military headquarters for flood victims.

Meanwhile, all 14 waterfalls in the province have been closed temporarily out of concern for the safety of tourists, the governor said.

Torrential rains over the past few days might have caused flash floods and landslides in the vicinity of the waterfalls, he said. (TNA)
