Noticeable Difference Between 2.5 And 3.2 Engine?

Featured Replies

yeah i'm good enough at math to see theres a .7 difference of something there, but i won't pretend to know much about what that difference of power is, and what tangibles are associated with it...

does the smaller engine mean that it won't reach the same top cruising speeds?

or that it doesn't have the same start power from low gears / low speeds?

or general acceleration?

all of the above?

what else?

thanks

I am also interested in the Pajero Sport 2.5. I had a test drive of the 3.2, apparently Mitsubishi will be sending 2.5 demo models to dealers at the end of january.

I guess the 2.5 will have slower acceleration and a lower top speed. I want to find out if it can cruise at 140 KPH on the highway. The Bangkok Post said that the 2.5 was a bit sluggish to accelerate at highway speeds.

I would like to hear from Snowflake as he said one of his mates picked up his new Pajero Sport 2.5. I would be interested in hearing his impressions

My relative has a triton 2.5 manual and can cruise at 140km/h. Ive been in it at 160km/h as well. I'm sure the 2.5 would be adequate but think the pajero sport will be heavier. I doubt the acceleration would be great, especially with an auto. PhilipM could fix you up on any acceleration problems though!

big guns, my big gut is saying go for the power... nothing worse than hitting the pedal to pass and it slumps along... and i do agree with cul. that the heavier pajero would require more than the triton.

i'm thinking it would be a shame to get the rig with a wimpy little engine...

curious if you have gotten down to negotiating with a dealer yet? what freebies have they offered?

thx

I spoke to the dealer and it seems like the margins are quite slim. They offered free red plates and registration and mats. They wouldn't even throw in film for the windows. The price they offred for my 2006 2000cc Lancer wasn't brilliant so I might sell that privately.

Go for the 3.2. I think phillipm will agree once he chimes in. Pay a little bit more for the extra torque, or you will always regret it. Torque is king.

I test drove a 2.5 Triton before I bought my 3.2. There is a noticeable difference, certainly there should be with a 28% difference in engine displacement (some math genius please correct me if I'm wrong). I went with the 3.2 and have never regretted it. As phillipm has shown, you can turn the 3.2 into a BEAST. I'm not sure if you could do that with the 2.5.

In addition, the Pajero has to be heavier than the Triton, all the more reason to go for the extra displacement.

Incidentally, I've driven a 2.5 Navarra (manual) and it destroys the 2.5 Triton (auto) that I drove, so it's not just the numbers that matter. But I must say the Navarra had the most brutal ride I've ever experienced. I wanted to throw up. And that's no exaggeration.

Best of luck.

hey mate 3.2 is the way to go.

as stated earlier by others, due to the significant weight gain ontop of the triton, a 3.2 is the way to go.

the extra amount of torque and hp will only improve performance and even fuel consumption.

the 2.5 would have conciderable difficulities when overtaking.

the 2.5 can be modified to, though the 3.2 will always have the advantage.

if you see it fit, get a 2.5 and we can mod it to easily surpass 3.2 std power and torque outputs.

the 3.2 will just benefit more, with always a 20-40hp difference and about 10 120-80nm extra torque advantage when modifing.

either way my suggestion is go for the 3.2, plus dont forget you get a tip tronic with the 3.2, kool!!! i would personally love one.
