sbk Posted January 9, 2009 Share Posted January 9, 2009 Parts maker pressed to pay terminated workersBy The Nation Over 800 subctracted workers of Single Point Part Plc on Thursday blocked the entrance to the company's plant in Rojana Industrial Park, Ayutthaya, demanding for compensations. Nittaya Bunthavong, one of the subcontracted workers, said that the workers received only Bt500 each when the subcontract was terminated. Labour Permanent Secretary Somchai Chumrat said he would seek discussions with companies which hired outside workers on compensation schemes, to help the subcontracted workers in case of termination. sbk Posted January 9, 2009 Author Share Posted January 9, 2009 BANGKOK, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Thai electronic parts supplier Single Point Parts (Thailand) SPPT.BK said on Thursday it had closed one of its four plants in response to weak demand and the impact of the global economic crisis. Single Point, which supplies parts for hard disk drives and consumer electronic products such as digital cameras, had cut output to 75 percent of capacity from the normal rate of 95 percent, general manager Seubtrakul Binthep told Reuters.The firm has laid off about 200 contract workers at the plant in the central province of Ayutthaya.
