Yesterday morning, Thursday 8 January, I went down to Swampyboom to the sort of off-site Immigration office to look into the possibility of using them for the "retirement" extensions rather than Suan Plu. Bad news, sign on the door said closing 15 Jan. Booo, sure easier to get to than SP.

Went inside to talk to the gals, they said packing up things tomorrow, Friday, forget about the sign. Really nice staff there, asked me a much of Qs like she was almost willing to process my extension right then if I had just a minimum of paper work with me, which I didn't.

So, home I went and gathered up my stack of papers. Got the copying done, and headed down there again real early this morning to see if they'd do the extension before unplugging the computers and packing the pens.

They did, I'm happy to say, but they're still closing. I jokingly complained, they suggested I phone the Commissioner of Immigration Police as they'd also like to stay there, nice facility, if a little awkward to get to.

Signs on the door say go to Immigration at Suan Plu or Samut Prakan. Booo.

A full service Immigration Office you say, now there's a thing to boggle the imagination! Presumably it's where you go to get an extension?

I've heard from a msn group that Re-entry permit will not be available at Suvarnabhumi after Jan.15. I don't think it is true. But he insisted that it it true. There are notices at the airport. Does somebody see it?

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

TWO (2) different offices of Immigration! The off-site one 15 minutes distant out at the south end of the airport is closing.

The Immigration IN THE AIRPORT BUILDING AT DEPARTUREs is still open and as far as I know will continue to do Re-Entry Permits.

Best, tho, to get one when you do an annual visa extension, then no worries about a long line at that Re-Entry Permit desk if you have to depart urgently.

Sad news indeed, it has always been such a breeze there with no queues or other applicants and friendly staff, I got 2 consecutive 1-year extensions based on marriage/wife's salary there and was planning to get the next one there soon assuming they for sure would still accept the wife's salary as they have always been kind and helpful. I have been told though that normally you couldn't go to suvarnabhumi immigration unless you knew people there or had a recommendation from a higher-ranking officer or family member so I wonder how other members here managed to do it there. I recall I once went with a friend and his wife a year ago to introduce them and help them but they just told them they would have to go to Suan Plu instead. By the way, they have been in that off-site location since around april 2008 because I recall applying at NOVOTEL in march 2008 but picking up my visa at that small barrack-like building in what seemed like the middle of nowhere.

Anybody know if they still issue re-entry permits at the departure area? Leaving the 15th.

The re-entry permit office at the airport is not closing.

It is an an office near the airport that is closing.

Sadly I can confirm that the re-entry permit office IS CLOSING, I passed through Swampy this evening there are signs saying closing on the 15th, whether that means they will be operating on the 15th is anyones guess.

Best to go to immigration in town for your re-entry permit.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Thanks Crossy, guess I had better make a quick trip to Suan Plu Rd just in case.

This we have done Yesterday in Mukdahan for our re-entry permit ( living in Mahasarakham so to travel 215 Km x2)

Still it is unclear about " closing office in the airport," according to the immigration officer in Mukdahan it is still possible to have re-entry permit on the airport.

So what to believe?

Mrs Artisi came across this in panthip.com and drew my attention to it, have posted it in Thai with a quick overview of its contents.

Who could ever know what their thinking is - it never ceases to amaze me but then I remember TIT.

Don't quite understand the 15 day reference. :o

Looking at the Thai text it does mention 15 and 30. Must be the 15 days entry by land and 30 days by air.
