FOUR people on the back of a motor bike :o

An all to common sight in Thailand.

When will they learn? Road safety is like talking about walking on the moon.....has no interest to the masses.

Very sad, but it will make no difference, unfortunately, there will be smilar accidents today and tomorrow, and the next day......................

Very sad.

but worse,

sadly predictable...

R.I.P.

And if predictable, not an accident. Horrible, yet avoidable to our western eyes. However, from the driver's perspective, unappreciated risk. If one is of humble means and not exposed to basic safety ed, taking a kid to the zoo is a big thing that overshadows any risk associated with the activity. The aunt was probably being a decent auntie in taking the kids and focused on getting them home, oblivious to the bus.

Girl killed in military sky-diving display

January 11, 2009 - 3:19PM

A 10-year-old girl was killed when a military sky-diving display went awry on Children's Day in Thailand, police said.

The girl was killed in northeastern Roi Et province on Saturday when an army sky diver taking part in a demonstration for Thailand's national day celebrating children was blown off course and landed on the youngster.

``The parachutist landed on the crowd because of strong winds, which made his approach difficult,'' a local police said.

Nine people including seven children were also killed in a car accident on Saturday in southern Narathiwat province as they returned from a trip to a waterfall to celebrate Children's Day, when events are held nationwide.

The driver of a pick-up truck carrying the day-trippers tried to overtake another vehicle, but instead veered off the road and smashed into trees on a traffic island, police in the area said.
