Gastroenterolgist Reccommendations

Featured Replies

Has anyone out there had any experience (good or bad) with a Gastroenterologist at any of the private Bangkok hospitals?

I need to see one, so any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I recommend Bumrungrad in Bangkok, not cheap but one that inspires confidence.

Thanks chiang mai. Yes, Bumrungrad is on my list along with Samitjev. However, if anyone has any specific names of doctors...

Bumrungrad lists about 20 Gastroenterologist's and Samitjev lists 19. A couple of the doctors work out of both hospitals.

I'm sorry that I don't have a specific name for you but my experience of the doctors at Bumrungrad is that no matter which one you chose, the hiring process of the hospital should go a long way to ensuring you chose a doctor that is well qualified, If it helps any, I had heart surgery there six months ago and chose a surgeon on the basis of the opinion of OR staff, an excellent choice by anyone's standards.

There are quite a number of well qualified ones top choose from. They usually have sub-specialties so it would help to know what type of problem,e.g. motility disorder, hepatic (liver), etc then I may be able to advise further

My problem is severe pain in my abdominal area. Any kind of movemenet exasperates it. It started on Saturday morning and has continued to the present.

I had the same kind of pain around six month ago, was precribed different kinds of medication, the pain subsided after 4-5 days, I continued to take them for 3-4 weeks after the pain stopped.

I started taking the same medication again on Saturday, but with no positve results (yet).

That is why I think a visit to Bangkok and some proper diagnostic tests might be in order.

Absolutely a trip to Bkk and proper diagnostic work up is in order. I can't say though based on the info provided thus far if a GI specialist is needed. Abdominal pain can have many causes. That the pain worsens with movement is not so typical of a GI problem.

Any diarrhea, nausea or vomiting?

Where exactly is the pain and what does it feel like (stabbing/gnawing/cramping etc?)

Any relationship to meals, i.e. is it better or worse after eating?

Have you had an overall physical exam since it started? and when did you last have a general check up (blood count etc)?

Lastly what were the meds you were given that seemed to help previously?

And am I right in assuming you are male (a host of possibilities open up if not)?

Sorry it's taken so long to follow up on my posts. But, I just got released from the hospital a couple of days ago. A friend stopped over after my last post and took me to AEK Udon International Hospital. A doctor poked and prodded my abdomen and said we need to get in there right away. I was wheeled over to a surgeon who concurred, asked me when I last ate, and at 8pm they did a appendectomy. I'm lucky to be alive, because if the appendix would have burst... I guess, if there is any lesson to be learned here...don't discount pains in your gut.

I was in the hospital one week. Excellent care, IMO.

For you BUPA members: my total bill came to around 93,000 baht, BUPA paid 88,000 baht. There were a few ineligible charges and room service food for my wife which I had to pay.
