Marriage In Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi!

Me and my boyfriend are planning to get married in Thailand. We both are Bangladeshi citizens, he resides in Bangladesh, i'm in Canada. We both hold Bangladeshi passports. I have a few questions and will be thankful if someone please shows the way :o

1. Can we do it ourselves or should we hire some agent for the marriage? We wanted to save the money.

2. Bangladeshi Consulate takes 2 days to issue the 'affirmation to marry' letter. Can someone please list the next step by step process? We have about 2 weeks (10 working days) in Bangkok.

3. Any other important information to remember?

Thanks!

You do not need an agent, the process is real easy.

After you submit all documents to your embassy and get the affirmation letter, you will have to have it translated into Thai by a translation agency. Should cost about 300 to 400 baht a page and can be done in about 1 hour for the both of you. There are some on wireless road and opposite the Thai ministry of foreign affairs.

Next you go to the Thai ministry of Foreign affairs, consular department at Cheang Wattana road, there you have the documents legalised. This will take about 4 hours. Once the papers are legalised you can go to any amphur in Thailand (Khet in Bangkok) to get married. This will take about 30 minutes and you are married.

Congratulations to the both of you.

Only you have to go through the procedure.

1. Letter embassy (contact your embassy for information on what you need to bring)

2. Get it translated it to Thai.

3. Get it legalized at MFA.

4. Go to your local amphur, you lady only has to bring housebook and ID-card.

You can also get the translating agency to have someone go to the MFA for a fee.

Congratulations

Note that you can register your marriage at any amphur, it doesn't need to be the amphur where your wife is registered.

Seems like I am coming to a right place tonight, lucky me .. :o

Below is my question:

I am a Malaysian, fell in love with a Myanmar girl in my country since 2 years ago.

Last year, we went to our Marriage Autority in Kuala Lumpur ( JPN, Putrajaya ) and was told that we cannot get married because Myanmar goverment no more endorse for myanmar citizen's single status document since Feb, 2007.

We were sad and desperate to get married but we could not find the way.

I heard from friend that we can solve our problem in Thailand.

But My question is : again, how can we get a single status document with endorsement from Myanmar Embassy ( in Thailand )?

without this document, how can we tie the knot in Thailand ?

Those who can offer information, please help.

Thanks in advance.

Have you asked the Myanmar embassy in Bangkok? Perhaps they will issue the Affirmation to Marry certificate. Without this document the marriage can't be legally registered by the amphur (Thai district office). Good luck.

The Myanmar government doesn't allow it's citizens to marry foreigners, so she won't get an Affirmation to get Married. and a marriage will not be recognized by the Myanmar government. OP could contact some refugee/burmeese organisations and ask them if there are ways to get arround the Myanmar government not co-operating.

Sorry, my fingers were quicker than my brain. I misread the post, no comment necessary.

if you live outside bangkok, can you post relevent docs to mfa,or must you go in person

Not sure, give them a call. But it is possible to have a translation agency handle the MFA side for you.
