Hi guys. i'm thinking about this one. just not sure transport wise what it will be.

Allan

Hi Allan,

I'm going to ride up from Bangkok with the missus on the new ER-6n. Perhaps take the scenic route via Khao Yai National Park.

Is your SuperSonic not running? If you can get it sorted or find something else to ride we'll look forward to seeing you there!

Happy Trails,

Tony and Nong

Sorry you can't make it Travelmate, but we'll see on the Udon Thani ride for sure!

For those going from Bangkok what's the most popular route?

This looks like the most direct but least pleasant:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source....943848&z=8

This is a a bit less direct and should be a bit nicer:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source....471924&z=9

And for those wishing to make a full day of it and go via the stunning roads of Khao Yai National Park this would be the way to go:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source....471924&z=9

(I vote for option #3 :D:o:D ) Anyone want to join?

Happy Trails!

Tony

Ok who's going from Bangkok. what time.what route?

Allan

Hi Jim and Allan,

We're going this way from Chonburi- would be very easy to meet up with Bangkok folks on 304 or 319 or 33 along the way:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source...235962&z=10

We're taking off for Pattaya now and won't be hauling the laptop so just call or SMS if you want to ride together.

Otherwise we'll see you in Lopburi!

Happy Trails,

Tony and Nong

Good times at the 18th Annual Lopburi Bike Week!

013109Stage1Sm.jpg

I started out from my friends house in Chonburi and met up with Jim (Itahilian) and Jim (Thumchok) at a nice lakeside restaurant just past Prachinburi on Highway 319. Some spicy Thai food was just what I needed to take the edge off my hangover-

013109PrachinBuriSm.jpg

No pics of the restaurant, but here we are in the parking lot. Kawasaki ER-6n, Kawasaki ZZR1400 and Kawasaki Ninja 250R

From Prachinburi it's a short ride to Khao Yai National Park. There were TONS of bikes out and about! We passed this group at a gas stop:

013109NearKhaoYaiSm.jpg

Notice the police escort and police bikes and they also had a huge support truck to haul all of their luggage so that they could ride light, which is always nice.

Surprise surprise- I have no idea why, but Khao Yai National Park was FREE for bikes this weekend!!! Riding the beautiful winding roads of Khao Yai National Park on my new ER-6n was awesome!

013109KhaoYaiMonNongSm.jpg

Even with the missus on the back the ER-6n had plenty of power to rocket along and she (the bike that is) stuck to the road like glue.

013109KhaoYaiStop1Sm.jpg

Ithailian gave chase on his Ninja 250R and Thumchok brought up the rear on his gorgeous ZZR1400.

Once we were out of the mountains we had to ride the rather nasty Highway 2 from Pak Chong to Saraburi before switching to Highway 1 to Lopburi. Man even in a mesh jacket it was HOT! I miss the cool season already!

We arrived at the Lopburi Rally around 2:30 pm. The event took place behind the Tesco Lotus on Highway 1- very easy to find and very HOT with all that fresh black top soaking up the sun.

013109JimsAndMeSm.jpg

Our timing was lucky because at 3 o'clock they organized a ride to the Phra Prang Som Yod ruins.

As you can see- it's mostly a cruiser/chopper type crowd, but as with all Thai bike events everyone was totally friendly.

013109LobBuriBikesSm.jpg

Such a well organized event- everyone stayed in formation and we had a police escort for the entire ride that blocked all other traffic so we had the road to ourselves.

These guys rolled in just as we were all leaving on the ride. I think it's the Naga Motorcycle Club out of Sri Racha?

013109LobBuriRide5Sm.jpg

The missus took these pics while we rode-

013109LobBuriRide6Sm.jpg

I'm guessing there were a good 400-500 bikes on the ride-

013109LobBuriRide12Sm.jpg

Easy ridin' in Lopburi, Thailand-

013109LobBuriRide13Sm.jpg

In front of the Phra Prang Som Yod ruins-

Bikes!

013109LobBuriBikes1Sm.jpg

And more bikes!

Did you know that Lopburi is famous for monkeys? I didn't and I'd probably never have visited this dusty town if it weren't for this Bike Week. Thailand's Bike Weeks give me a good reason to get out and see parts of the country that I'd otherwise probably never see.

Jim and Mon- a very nice couple and a pleasure to ride with-

013109LobBuriJimMonSm.jpg

Jim with his beautiful ZZR 1400-

Wedging the ER-6n between a couple of hogs-

013109LobBuriMeSm.jpg

The ride culminated in a ceremony where we gave food to the monkeys at the Phra Prang Som Yod ruins-

013109LobBuriMonkeySm.jpg

Good lord there were a lot of monkeys!!!

013109LobBuriMonkey1Sm.jpg

Obviously very used to people-

013109LobBuriMonkey4Sm.jpg

But they still need to work on their table manners- :D

013109LobBuriMonkey6Sm.jpg

Bonne Appetit! :o

013109LobBuriMonkey9Sm.jpg

I felt safer around these primates with the helmet on! :D

Here's the missus showing off the ER-6n in Lopburi-

If you need a place to stay in Lopburi check out the Lopburi Inn Resort- a great place to "monkey around"! monkey.gif

Lopburi Bike Week Continued!

So, after the Merit Making at Phra Prang Som Yod it was time to get the party started!

First thing we needed to do was to find a place to stay. We asked some of the other bikers and were recommended to try the Lopburi Inn Resort: http://www.lopburiinnresort.com/ Ever wondered what a "Monkey Party" is exactly? Ever heard of Monkey Beer? Well, the Lopburi Inn Resort is the place to find it! :o

party4.gif

Nice place! Big clean monkey free rooms for only 950 Baht/night including a big breakfast buffet.

roomiinn.jpg

Huge pool too- man it felt good to jump in and cool off after a long hot day on the road.

Time to hit the party!

013109CowGirlSm.jpg

Why is it that at every bike week there are always a few Thais dressed up as cowboys and Indians? dam_n cute cowgirl above.

Dad?

013109IndianSm.jpg

The Wild West comes to LopBuri Thailand!

Gotta show off the ER-6n :D

013109ER6nNinjaSm.jpg

Jim and Amy are a very nice couple. She had to ride the bus to Lopburi but was still in good spirits-

013109JimAMy1Sm.jpg

I didn't take too many pics but the food was excellent, the entertainment top notch and the coyotes sexy as all dat!

013109CoyoteSexySm.jpg

See her in action:

Here's something I've not seen before:

013109MiniChoppersSm.jpg

I've seen Mini bikes, but I've never seen Mini-Choppers! It's kinda hard to tell in these pictures, but these bikes are TINY.

Good to run into FAT BASTARD and Ajahnlau too!

Biker patches-

On February 1st the Lopburi Bike Week organizers arranged for a ride to a local temple for a merit making ceremony.

Here we are gathering in the morning. Gotta love these guys- water for the ladies and beers for the guys at 8am! :o

020109AMRideSm.jpg

Here we are headed out of town:

020109AMRide9Sm.jpg

A pleasant morning ride to the temple- you can kind of see it up on the hill to the left:

020109AMRide12Sm.jpg

Pulling in to the temple-

020109AMRideMeSm.jpg

The missus posing with the Kawasaki ER-6n-

020109AMRideNongER6nSm.jpg

One more pic of the bikes-

020109AMRideBikes1Sm.jpg

Making Merit-

020109AMRideMerit2Sm.jpg

The organizers of the Lopburi Bike Rally presented the temple with a donation of over 100,000 Thai Baht raised during the Rally- Awesome!

020109AMRideMerit3Sm.jpg

Rode back to Bangkok and got a bit lost. Beers at my place before everyone headed on home-

Great pics Tony! Although I am glad you didn't post the pics of yourself swimming around the resort pool in your underpants ... you'd surely have been banned from ThaiVisa.

As for my girl having to take the bus, well, as I told her ... it's impossible to ride it like I stole if we are 2-up... :o

LOL! well, at least I didn't jump in naked, even though the front desk ladyboy encouraged me to :D:D:o

And I agree with you 100% that the Ninja 250R is best ridden solo. 2-up really slows that bike down too much. So I guess you better get a bigger bike soon!

Only a few more days until we're off to Udon Thani!

Happy Trails!
