Making My Dvd&mp3 Remote (?)

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm planning to move soon and got some (100DVD/100VCD) which I was thinking to backup on a HD .

I read some anterior posts about the software and looks like DVD Cloner will do for my DVDs. Any recommendations for MP3 would be welcome.

Never played movies from the HD (I like sitting in front of TV set). Questions:

1. Will I be able to play the movies directly from the HD?

2. Is there any software you would recommend to keep all the data clear and user friendly?

3. What HD would you recommend? Will the standard USB 2 be enough?

Thanks in advance.

I would take a look at Handbrake for encoding of the vdo. Then download a tutorial… not that it's that hard, it just makes life easy!

The saved file type/size will ultimately determine the HDD's size – more GBs will be better

USB drives should be OK – or you could look at the newer eSata external drives which are a lot faster in data transfer rates, though they require a external power supply, and a interface on the host PC.

Look on a file site like www.softpedia.com/ or Google – "rip to mp3" this will bring up a plethora of choice's.

Make ISO images of DVD using DVD decrypter to store on hard drive (free)

This produces 1 file and makes it easy to burn it back to a dvd in the future using DVD Shrink (free)

use daemon tools to create virtual dvd drive and mount the ISO image to play (free)

usb from external hd to com to tv via vga is fine

Thanks a lot for your comments. That's saved some time :o

I think I will try first to play on my external USB HD before buying 1.5T Seagate. I saw them in IT City for 8.590,- THB. First will go with the free software - thank you for pointing it. :D
