Be patient. I emailed the consulate in BKK to determine where I needed to go to file an I-130 for my wife. I received a response 6 weeks later...

Was that the Consulate or the Bangkok USCIS office? I have e-mailed the USCIS office and got a reply pretty quickly. Also, if you had looked at the USCIS web site for the Bangkok office it plainly says they accept I-130 petitions from people resident in Thailand.

I sent the email to: [email protected]. I also asked if I would qualify as a resident of thailand... this is not on the website and I remember reading at the time (sorry, I don't remember the source) that it is wise to contact them to be sure you qualify before submitting the petition.

So you sent the note to the USCIS office, not the consulate. It was probably me that recommended you send the e-mail, as I did the same thing and got an answer back within a day. But that was in 2005, so things may have changed?

I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers with the comment...I was just pointing out to "chuckd" that I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a response to his query several weeks from now. The six weeks response from the BKK USCIS office could just be an anomoly. In fact, it didn't do us any harm because after I emailed USCIS we decided to hold off on submitting our petition for a while; so it worked out ok. 6 weeks was better than never for our case!

I saw the last sentence and laughed aloud. The US State Department has "solved" the problem. We can all rest easy in our beds tonight knowing these folks have our back. :o
