dave_boo Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Seagate has issued an updated firmware; but I'd let others test it before I recommend anyone buying one of the affected drives.
Tywais Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 The problem is in the firmware, specifically SD15. The details can be located here > Seagate It originally started as only the 1TB drive but appears several of the 7200.11 family are also effected possibly including the 1.5TB (I haven't looked specifically for info on that one). Tom's Hardware Guide Seagate now has the firmware update for the issue. I have applied the update to my 1TB drive and 2 500GB drives that had the SD15 firmware and have had no problems. Seagate Knowledgebase Looking at the list I don't see the 1.5TB in it. Seagate Tools for Dos will tell you the firmware number. More at Tom's hardware guide (old information though) There are many hits on Google regarding this.
Jared Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 If you go on there website theres a little program you can download and it checks your harddrives to see if there are any problems, luckily the two computers I just brought with seagate drives were fine.
