Travelmate Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Hey Tony,Just got my new GPS after I sold my old beloved one to Trent, got the same Garmin GPSMap 60Cx for 227.5 $ plus the RAM mount for 35 $ pretty good deal. So now we are out of excuses for getting lost I guess. Can't wait for the trip when I get back home. Yamaha installed the V46 top box and E41 side cases so I'm good for over 120 liters of luggage, probably have to take a load of Trent's shampoo and cream and shit I guess as he never get enough space. Cheers Bard hey bard...in my case the GPS unit just means i get more lost tony can confirm that....took us on some nice little side roads up north Yah, so true, in fact we started to ignore his electronic backed directions.
BigBikeBKK Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 hey bard...in my case the GPS unit just means i get more lost tony can confirm that....took us on some nice little side roads up north LOL! Indeed, I'm becoming rather distrusting of guys with GPS! Not just you Anthony Of course, the first detour turned out to be pretty cool- The second detour however did not merit a picture or praise... All's well that ends well bro! Happy Trails! Tony
BigBikeBKK Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 You wanna talk about getting LOST with GPS?! Oh man- a couple of weeks ago, somebody with a GPS who shall remain anonymous told us he knew a good shortcut back to Bangers. What shoulda taken us an hour ended up closer to 3! Look at the bright side- I got to find out how the ER-6n handles on dirt Climbed up on this bridge in the middle of NOWHERE to see what I could see- man did we get turned around!
AnthonyR1 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 who shall remain anonymous anonymous heh? hmmmmm....is the green 250 ninja in the background a hint to his identity? hehehehehehe!

Bard Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Lost with a GPS, well done guys! I have to this date got lost once without GPS only, with GPS never. It is a bit how you use it perhaps. Think map, when I drive or ride without GPS I look at the map first, plan the route, write down all the road # and the towns on a route. Like waypoints. Then aim for them one at the time, bullet proof really. The time I got lost I forgot to write down the towns and there were no road number signs. Same goes for the GPS I put in the waypoints and I never got lost, the GPS will aim you from waypoint to waypoint until destination, if you just dial the destination they will recalculate all the time and might change the routes continuously and you may get lost. Cheers Bard

At least they'd finished building that bridge . The next two were still under construction .

So, had you ever taken your ZZR1400 off road like that before? Looking back it's pretty funny, though I'm not in a hurry to repeat! Happy Trails! Tony
Travelmate Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Wow that some shortcut. Problem with GPS it not that accurate when in the country. In Anthony's case we were following a dirt track running parallel to the main road. Perhaps, Ant strongly believed the dirt track IS the main road. Despite the VFR rider in our group frantically waving his arm at us telling he got it wrong,

Despite the VFR rider in our group frantically waving his arm at us telling he got it wrong, Well, a GPS is only as good as the maps that are loaded on it... Like you say, the main roads are probably all well mapped and up to date, but when you start riding the smaller roads I suspect many of them are not updated regularly on the GPS maps. Trying to get to the Khosit Hotel in Petchabun, for example, I think that little alley that dead ended probably used to connect to the main road but it was out of date on Anthony's GPS...

Thumchok Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 There is a road not far out of the village I stay up north that has about 5 klm dirt heading into Kalasin, usually corrugated as hel_l , but it saves around 10 kms off the trip , so I take that road . Also the roads just near the village have potholes worse than the road we took that day . Hardly feel them if you power over them at around 90 . But then you get the local scooters weaving all over the rd trying to dodge the potholes , so most of the time your stuck behind them . At least they'd finished building that bridge . The next two were still under construction . LOL Thumchok! So, had you ever taken your ZZR1400 off road like that before? Looking back it's pretty funny, though I'm not in a hurry to repeat! Zzinged Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Ok so... carpal tunnel release surgery... I have a slit running down from the middle of my palm to the wrist (called open hand surgery). Sutures come out in about a week or 2. It currently hurts like a mofo, especially if i use my thumb. Grip strength is very poor and using my hand for anything atm is out of the question I think i need to find better pain killers My doctor asked if i wanted to do both hands at the same time.... the crazy fooker
dotcom Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Which side did you have done? P.S. I located a set of handlebars. The VMAX just ran great yest.
Zzinged Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 right side. also, any luck on the paintjob?

Sounds very painful Zzinged, hope you recover quickly. How does the doctor expect you to give little Zzinged a little tickel if he does both hands at once
Bard Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Since this is the thread we can just ramble away, here is a vdo from typical country roads from back home in the old world. I loved riding there, and luckily we have really nice loops in Thailand so I don't miss out... Cheers Bard
Zzinged Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 My hand 2 days post-op This is as far as i can bend it inwards before it starts hurting like mad, i.e. not very much >.< Sutures out on Friday... but no idea how long till I regain full use of my right hand. ATM my grip strength is still weak and using my thumb is painful Bard: when are we arranging a group trip up to Norway for a week's riding? :D

CroBiker Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Looking at pics of 2009 ZZR 1400 and drooling..... At Hayabusa forums everyone saying it is ugliest bike they ever seen. How come? They don't like those so called "George Foreman Grills". I think they are cool, gives even more sporty look. As a Busa and ZZR 1400 owner I can't understand why they flaming the looks of latest edition. See for yourself:
LivinLOS Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 The busa has always been ne of those bikes that attracts love / hate kind of feelings.. The nature of such a high speed machine requires a airflow design that way I guess. Personally I dont dislike it, I dont find the busa kind of machine appealing personally, especially for Thailand where its strengths are harder to use. But this looks no worse than earlier models.
neverdie Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 ^^ Cro, That Kwaka 1400 looks great....I like the gills on the side too. I can imagine that they are boxing it on the Suzuki site because if anything it looks much nicer than the bus! If anything, they should can those stupid headlights....something I just cant get use to. The bike is looking very FAT in those pictures, nice, i want one of them too I like the colouor as well. SERIOUSLY NICE BIKE PORN!
AnthonyR1 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 ^^^ hmmm....gotta be honest...not my thing. looks inflated or something, also i don't think that paint job helps the bike much. would look a totally different beast in black
HAWKHILL Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Ducati make really nice bikes lots of new technology, but also lots of recalls voltage regulator for one and rear drive sprocket another, why don't they get these items sorted before the bike go on sale. I have heard the 1198 has some issues with the engine. Ducati Thailand say thet the 1198 wo't be in country until Sept 09 time to start saving. HH Calling Crobiker, Rustic Charm & any of the others interested in reading a good write up on the new Ducati 1198S......also click on the link above and goto Kevin Ash's site, click on bike tests and have a read, very informative....looks like Ducati may have pulled something very special out of their hat, this time.

HH, Which duke had the recalls and what were the problems you heard with the engine in the 1198, ive been reading around heaps and am yet to hear anything bad....ohhh except for a few 1098 owners going on about theres no reason to buy a 1198, but you always get that type of thing.
dotcom Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Likin the ZZR 1400. Always have. no ugly can is worth 100,000 baht easy.

It is special edition called ZX-14 Monster Energy. Apparently with some tech improvements too but looks are pretty plain. This model is even more detested by busa forums members.
Thumchok Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 There is my next mia noi , If I ever get rid of the other two Shame they didn't bring over the 2008 special edition ZX14.
