BANGKOK, Jan. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand's highly revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej has instructed a foundation under his patronageto take care of children who lost families in Asia's tsunamis on Dec. 26, 2004.

The royal Rajaparchanukroh Foundation will provide education and shelter for at least 100 orphans left by the disaster, which claimed tens of thousands lives in South and Southeast Asia.

The king has asked the foundation to take care of the kids and provide them with at least college education, reported Bangkok Post on Tuesday.

In Thailand alone, nearly 5,200 people were killed by the tidalwaves. The victims included many children and parents.

The king, who also lost his 21-year-old grandson in the disaster, had earlier donated 30 million baht (75,000 US dollars) to tsunami victims.

The United Nations has also warned that children need special treatment and care in the aftermath of the disaster. Enditem
