I was wondering if anyone knows what the rules are for a new passport. The embassy rang me to say that I will be getting it posted back to me for Monday. I have a Non-B visa for work, and have been told that I need to have it moved to my new passport. They also said that it needs to be done within one week of receiving the new passport. Is that correct?

I normally do my 90 days report at Ayutthaya so I presume I can get it changed there. Is that correct?

I have also heard that I will need to get a new stamp from the labour department in my new passport and that this needs to be paid for. Is that true?

Immigration seems pretty relaxed about the time in which you have to transfer your stamps. I did it after more then a month, without any problems. Tranfer of stamps is free and doesn't take much time.

Are you here on your original non-B or on extensions?

The labour department doesn't put any stamp in your passport. They only deal with the WP.

If you are on an extension of stay they will move all your stamps over.

If you are on a non-b muliple entry visa they will only move your entry and permit to stay stamps. Ypu have to use the old passport when you re-enter the country and show your visa.

You also should have a letter trom the embassy stating they issued you a new passport. There is no charge at immigration to move the stamps. You will need this form: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/downl...ansferstamp.doc

I don't know of any rule that says it has to be done within a week.

I don't know about the labour department stamp.

Thanks for your advice all.

The labour department might not have put any stamp in your passport, but they definitely put one in my passport. The stamp is all in red and it is on the inside cover page.

The couple of times this has happened to me, i just take everything to the border (old and new passport--i've never had a letter from the embassy but maybe that's a new thing) and when I come in again the border police hand write my old passport number and a couple of previous entry dates. However, people I've known have gone down the suanplu bureau and do everything before they leave the country and reported that it takes a lot of time, and you've got to go to several rooms which can take the most part of the day, although it does appear to be costless. Border police man could get grumpy. Apparently, by law they can refuse to allow you out if you're using a passport which is no longer in use but it didn't happen to me.

Two years ago I obtained a new UK Passport.

CM immigration transferred over my Non Imm Retirement visa , no problem, with a smile even, however they insisted that I Purchased a new Multiple Entry Visa, B 3,200 ?

They entered No smiles Not Happy when I Tried to insist I had paid once for the forthcoming 12 month period.

Old Hands in CM, 15 years resident CM to be considered Old CM Hand, maintain that Immigration is a Law unto it's self and No Two Immigration Offices ever have the same INTERPRETATION, of the Law.
