January 4, 200521 yr I make my first Penang visa run next week. Cany anybody tell me the prices of:- Budget Hotel/Guesthouse per night (any recommendations) Visa fee Transport costs Malaysian Airport tax (is there any?) Thanks in advance.
January 4, 200521 yr Hotels vary as with anywhere, i/d recommend the Hotel Continental on Jalan Penang (Georgetown ) 1000 baht/night 3 star hotel with pool. Visa Fee .....presumably you mean the Thai visa fee the cost is the same as you would pay in your home country just converted into Ringitt......add approx 300 baht on if you intend to use an agent to obtain your Visa. Transport costs are reasonable, again it is down to your haggling to some extent for taxis. Yes departure tax is payable.
January 5, 200521 yr Departure Tax from Penang is collected with the ticket; at least last Year with both Thai Airways and AirAsia it was so. Sunny
January 6, 200521 yr Departure Tax from Penang is collected with the ticket; at least last Year with both Thai Airways and AirAsia it was so.Sunny Yes it still is.

January 7, 200521 yr No its not the same place..........people often confuse the two, the one you mean is the Grand Continental this is just the Continental.........its at the bottom of Jalan Penang. Very nice clean place with pool.

January 10, 200521 yr I stayed at the Oriental Hotel and the Merchant Hotel before. Both are good budget choices. Oriental Hotel at the corner of Chulia and Penang Rd.I think only about 70 Ringgets. Adequate and clean place.
