Good Quality Dog Food Found In Thailand?

Hi,

Any good quality premium dry dog food available in Thailand?

In 40 lb bags and what price?

Where can I buy?

My dog is currently on Nutro Lamb and Rice..anything of comparable quality?

Raw food dogs live well and smell nice!

I recall seeing "Pedigree" brands (dry food) in the supermarkets but can't advise on the flavours or size of bags.

Lots of quality food available at pet shops nationwide, large bag 800+-bht. Have seen Pedigree lamb flavour.

Jesus.. I have a nice brand-name dog too, but I feed it just about anything. I even intentionanlly bring it to parties with lots of food so others will feed it for free. After the Christmas barbecues in the bars she didn't need food almost until New Years eve.

She's especially fond of shrimp's heads and the bones that I get for free from the local Khao Khaa Moo stall.

People allways say not to feed a dog chicken bones, but mine just completely crunches them up. (Live chickens better beware, too.. )

I had my real pedigree brand-name dog trained in between the soi-dogs at a farm. I'm so proud of her now. Still I'd recommend to get something pedigree & cute, because people tend not to feed and take care of soi-dogs as well as they do a golden retriever who mastered 'the cute-look'. So a pedigree cute one is cheaper in the long run. Pretty much anytime I leave the beast in the back of the pick-up when going shopping or something, upon my return I find that someone has provided water and some food.

I guess I'm just not the kind of person who's into Alpo & dressing dogs up when the temperature drops below 20.

thx for the replies but i'm looking for a better quality dog food than "pedigree brand"...thier quality is crap, most of their dog food has very little nutritional value and is made primarily from corn which is their filler...check out their ingredients :

GROUND YELLOW CORN, RICE, SALMON MEAL (SOURCE OF OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS*), CHICKEN BY-PRODUCT MEAL, CORN GLUTEN MEAL....

Main product is corn and not even real chicken...

I'm looking for a brand where the first ingredient is lamb or some other sort of meat...

As for the suggestion of raw meat, too many chances of parasites and other sicknesses plus my dog has been used to dry dog food for all his life...

Could any of you guys check the ingredient list in a local thai petstore to find a quality dog food with some sort of meat (lamb preferably) listed as the first ingredient?

So how about just getting some real chicken then. Preferably still alive, mine enjoys that.

Or just do it yourself. If your dog prefers dried food, I recommend imported Alpen muesli, mixed with New-Zealand-steak-daed-diow. Coursely chop it all up together, add vitamins, calcium and medications as needed and leave it out in the sun for an afternoon.

cook some rice and boil some pork, mix together and leave the bone for snack, work very well compare to dog food, dog food are built to preserve for a long period of time, who know what they put in there.

never feed your dog chicken bone, it might chock them, cause chicken bone are very sharp when break-up, unlike pork bone the grain run vertical

I feed my dog with the same menu .

Tee bone steack / salmon / prawns / grill duck fillet …

He never complaint ! Some time he get is csesar and dry food for good balance and remind him who he is !

What I find the best is pork or chicken mince to be add with rice .

But he still prefer sharing table with me 

raw chicken bones are good for dogs, cooked are not. pork is good too.

my boxers now get: rice cooked with bought ground turkey or sheep ( i nuke in the micro or boil till soft) mixed with nutra nuggets dry for high action dogs:

depends on your breed and problem:

most foods seem to have corn meal or soy meal as a main ingredient and that causes lots of problmes with the boxers (farting, hair loss, allergies, whatever);

my three israeli canaan dogs (similar to the thai village pariah dog) get leftover thai food and leftover cafeteria food, the occasional dead rabbit (death by fightng other rabbits, not sick ones), crows that my thai worker hunts down, plus some dog food extra in winter since they work out doors: and they have no problems what so ever.

dont forget that most dog foods cater to dogs in climatic conditions that dont match with thailands' humid heat... check with thai canine societies for what they recommend.

many dry food brands available, here in samui for example royal canin, eukanuba (around 1800 baht for 20kg), hill's science diet, many cheaper ones like pedigree, alpo, tesco lotus brand, and some thai produces. in the meat markets you can ask for bones ('gadook') or chicken carcasses. small mackerel is a cheap healthy option.

I usually boil fish or meat and some vegetables, mix it with rice and dry food or when I don't have a lot of time give only dry food and some raw beef or pork bones. also raw hide bones available. at petshops or vets you will find lots of additionals as vitamin tablets etc.

so, don't worry!

Anything outside Nana Plaza on the food market..... that is what all the dogs eat!!!!

Cow food works pretty well!! you could give them premier cow food at 21% protien about 200 bht for 30 kg. Mine hang around the farm waiting for the left overs.

Thanks guys for all the useful info. It's great to hear that Lotus carries many of the higher grade dry dog food. I'm sticking with dry dog food since my dog's stomach is very susceptible to new changes in food considering that he is in his senior yrs (11yrs old is quite old for a large breed Rottwieller) plus to reduce the huge stress of a climate change and long airflight. This dog is my "right hand man" so I take every precaution to make his last final yrs "golden".

Frontline is available here. You find everything for pets.. I mean as long as you are not totally in countryside where I don't know the situation.. but BKK Pattaya huket no proble

and of course Eukanuba which according to me and a friend who is a vet specialised in pet food is the best.. They have a special line for puppies. I used it for my yorkshire female and now I use the small breed type..

I must say the fur improved a lot after I choosed that brand instead of other ones I was using...
