I received permission to stay last April on the fact that I am legally responsible for my biological son and am legally married to his mother. Prior to this I was on a work permit/ Non B visa for about six years.

Last April, I did not have to show any visible income/ savings from anywhere, Thailand included. I have made recent enquiries with my lawyer who has informed me that I now need 40K/ month income from outside Thailand to qualify. I do receive a pension from the UK government of about 14K/ month. I do not have savings of 400K plus, so cannot switch to a marriage visa. I cannot free up savings in the UK without breaking up the investments and losing money.

My lawyer will try to plead my case with Immigration to have a further year extension based on the old rules from last April. Is this likely? If not, what would my options be?

The process start date is early March.

I also understand that the British Embassy will issue a letter of verification, but only for sums of 40+K/ month. Can anyone tell me how this process works?

I have heard of Multiple Entry O visa being obtainable, at a cost, which would give me between 12/ 15 months, leaving every 3/12 to get stamped. Can I do this myself by going, for example, to Laos?

If the above seems a little confused, my apologies, but I would appreciate some concrete advice from the experts on this forum.

Thanking you in anticipation, Arthurboy's dad.

The income does not have to be from outside Thailand if you are working and have a work permit and can show tax payments.

There is clause in the police order that immigration has the discretion to allow you use the old rules if you had an extension prior to the rule changes. But it is only valid for 1 year after the order came into effect. You might be ok for this year but not next year.

You might be able to get a letter based upon investements from the embassy see this webpage from the embassy werbsite for info. http://ukinthailand.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for...ng-in-thailand/

You can get a multiple entry non-o in KL or Penang. Vientiane only does single entry visas.

As you say the new rule is 40,000 a month or 400,000 in the bank. I have never heard of any limit to get the Embassy letter.

As said you can get a Multi Entry Non O Visa. UJ gave you the link for the UK Embassy. This is taken from there.
