Pakeha Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Thai national caught with an unlicensed firearm granted 'uton' (that's what I understand the word to be) and doesn't have jail time now but maybe in the future. Don't really understand. Can anyone clarify?
Pakeha Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 It's a close to home situation following the (non-fatal) shooting of a family member if that encourages responses.
Pakeha Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 maybe he just paid his way out I was under the impression an 'instant fine' would have resolved the issue (and trust me it should have) but due to timing and bigger fish it didn't. And now we're left with the 'uton' situation which I'm trying to figure out. Something about if he's good for a year no jail, or less jail, but that just seems a bit odd to me. I understand 'uton' to be something like 'liberty' but that doesn't really seem like what it is. Sounds more like parole...
GarryP Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 The word 'uton' in Thai means appeal. He will be out on bail pending the result of his appeal.
Pakeha Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 The word 'uton' in Thai means appeal. He will be out on bail pending the result of his appeal. That makes sense. Any idea what the cost is for a succesful appeal?
GarryP Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 The only cost will be the cost for the lawyer to prepare the appeal.
