Can someone help me with an 0 visa question. I have an 0 visa but I am not married to my Thai partner but we have a daughter together. She was born in Thailand so gets Thai citizenship and as the mother she automatically got my UK citizenship.

What has happened since I had to change my visa when I stopped working to look after my daughter, I was issued with an O visa but have been told because I am not married to my Thai partner I have to do a visa run every 90 days. Is this correct and is there another option.

If we decided to get married because of this inconvenience can we just have a Thai marriage or does it have to be through the UK embassy. Doing visa runs when you have a young child, as the mother is not easy and I would prefer not to have to do this. But on the other hand I do not wish to get married just because of a visa rule.

Grateful for any info :o

As the parent of a child with Thai nationality you can get an extension of stay based upon that. You will need to show an income of 40,000 baht per month income or have 400,000 in a Thai bank account.

See 2.18 (5) of this police order. police_order_2008.pdf

To get married the only part of the procedure to get married that involves the embassy is to get a affirmation to marry which is required to register your marriage at the amphoe (district office).

See this webpage for info on marriage. http://ukinthailand.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for...gister-marriage

If married only 2.18 1, 2, and 3 of the police order would apply. In this case there is no written amount of income that has to be shown. But some proof of income would be required.

Nikisue. As you are a lady. If you did decide to get married it would be very easy for you to get 12 month extensions without most of the requirements us men have to go through. It is much easier for a woman with a Thai Husband than a man with a Thai Wife.

Other than that try the Thai Child support route as UJ said.

Thanks for the info. I will definately try to child support route. The issue I have with getting married is that I am not getting on so well with my partner and I am not sure if getting married is the right thing to do. I do understand as far as a visa requirment goes it is easier but on a personal level I fear it will bring more problems than it will solve. I know that as a female it is easier for me than a man in my position, but on the flip side getting married to a Thai man brings issues. It is almost an 'ownership' right for my partner and could also be seen by his family as a free meal ticket. I did enquire at my local immigration as I have some savings that cover the amount they require but they did not mention that I could take this route.

As said 2.18(5) Concerns you.

You already know that getting married just to get a Visa is not the thing to do. :o

Any doubts nikisue, dont get married especialy in Thailand as the thais do seem to have a problem keeping their temper in certain situations.I am not knocking thais in the slightest so i hope nobody accuses me of thai hate.

My gf family are amazing and they give us things and not expect anything in return, but i do get them things for new year and birthday, btw thats just her mum.Iwould have no hesitation to marry my gf if i needed too but she hasnt asked me lol.

Anyway good luck and hope you make the right decision
