Keeping Past Salary Confidential From New Employer ?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am new here and great to part of this wonderful knowledgable community. I have one question that needs help and advices on how to deal with this particular salary problem.

I am changing to a new workplace soon. And it looks promising. As i dun really want my new employer to have any idea on how much i was earning in the previous job. Is there any way to handle this or there is no way that they will not know?

I was kind of being 'persuaded' in this present job into accepting a lower salary. I was naive. And i do not want my new employer to judge me on my current earning to offer me a compensation package, based on what i was earning in the past.

I would like to start afresh and hope my new employer to offer me a fair compensation package based on my qualifications, skills and experiences and what i can bring to the table.

How should i go about doing this? From what i read, my new employer WILL have to coordinate with my present employer to get the Work Permit transferred ?

Please help.

Thanks

Avante

There is no need for your new employer to know your current salary. So, if you and your current employer don't tell him they will not know. Ask your employer not to reveal it to your old boss.

By the time you get to the point where your new and old employers have to be in contact you should already have your contract signed. It is one of the documents needed for a work permit application.

Thank Mario,

But from what i see, on the last page of the work permit. There a section whereby our position and initial salary are stated in it ?

Not in my WP. Are you sure you mean the WP and not the application form?

You can fill the salary information in after the company has signed and provided the details.

Yes Sir, my work permit has both my current position (which is fine) and current salary stated in the WP.

But let skip the WP salary part for the moment. So if they plan to hire me. What they gonna do is just applied a new book of WP for me. Is that right? If this is the case. That will be wonderful for me. My past salary detail is kept safe :o and they do not have to go through the process of coordinating with my current employer, using my current WP and 'adding' them (as the new employer) to my current WP. Therefore cancelling out the old employer. :D
