We stayed for 1 week at Best Western Ban Ao Nang

The hotel is located on a slight incline. So whilst we stayed in a room on the 3rd storey, it was equivalent to go up 4 flights of steps. There is not lift and the steps are quite steep. There were never any staff at the bell boy desk – wonder why.

The breakfast was mediocre at best. The breakfast is served by the pool. One morning one of the waiters brought out a dead rat with serving tongues from the kitchen and just threw it in the bushes nearby. He then returned the serving tongues to the cutlery tray !!!!!!!!!!

Air Con

One night the air con unit went faulty and dropped water onto our suitcases and computer bag. On to occasion the power to the air con unit failed.

Swimming Pool

All the beds are just too close together and there is not much room around the pool.

Each night they bring out a portable pool filter and run it throughout the night. Some days the pool water was murky and looked like a prescription for an ear infection.

Staff

Generally quite friendly and helpful.

TV

The tv in our room was 14inches and there was only one chair.

Room View

The balcony looked out on to a hillside which was very close and the windows were tinted so it was quite depressing.

Bathroom

The toilet was sited close to a wall and one had to ride it side saddle.

The wash basin was quite high and had only one tap – cold water only.

Would not recommend this hotel or stay there again.

I believe there are two Best Western's in Ao Nong.

Was the one you stayed at, only about 100-200 meters from Ao Nong beach itself, or were you at the one that is on the hill that overlooks Napphorat and a lot of construction?

I usually recommend the one that is near Ao Nong beach as it's relatively new and has a restaurant right on the main drag.

You did recommend the other one but it was fully booked. I now know why !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

o.k., thank you. I still need to figure out how to differentiate the names. I'll be down there next week and figure it out for myself.

Here you go Huggy....Best Western Baan Ao Nang is the poor one, near the beach with the restaurant underneath

Best western Ao Nang Bay Resort and Spa is the better one up the hill, a little bit more expensive but in a different league.

My folks stayed in the Baan Ao Nang in 2007 and were quite happy with it.However they stayed in it in 2008 and were very disapointed. Pretty much the same comments as were posted earlier.

yep, was down there Thursday and saw that for myself.

I'm surprised the OP had such a miserable experience.

Tell you what, I was by the Salatalay also and man that's a nice resort.

Also, I'm surprised at all the little inns that have gone up on the road below La Playa. Definitely be some low season deals with all those rooms.

yes the Salatalay is superb, i would say one of the best resorts in Ao Nang, and well away from all the busy main drag.

I think that Napparat is prime for a business boom. Ao Nang main drag is a mess. I get bummed out everytime I walk by what use to be a pretty cool rock n roll bar that now is a F**ing BURGER KING !............
