This impeachment motion is ridiculous. How can you impeach someone who was appointed by the army after blocking the airport with a rent-a-mob of off-duty soldiers and bored Bangkokians? This foolish impeachment attempt only serves to give legitamacy to the scoundrel Abhisit.

Agreed. A total farce. It was the military that shoe horned the Democrats into the driving seat and until they say otherwise anything the opposition do is a total waste of time and is only an attempt to give Aphisit a tough time of it. If there were a viable alternative to the Democrats things might be different but as it is , Chalerm is so unpalatable to so many people that the potential for any serious opposition is diminishing daily.

*whoopsie, fact check break*... Peua Thai Party was only born last year.

Is People Power Party and Peua Thai Party the same party?

In a word; NO

Same overlord and absentee leader, a few of the same MP's

but it is a weakened shadow of what TRT through a inept PPP once was.

The incompetence shown through this attempt to harrass Abhisit shows without a doubt,

how far from the tree this cracked little acorn has fallen.

Not even a Sapling seems to sprout.

How can you rule a country of you can't even organizes a proper working critque?

Can't forget in 8 years when you never knew in 10.

Just because you have ancestors

doesn't mean you can act as strong as they did.

They also didn't impeach Abhisit, they only filed a motion

for the legislative branch to VOTE to impeach or not,

based on their arguments at the censure debate.

After that there would have to be a trial based on

an impeachment motion being passed. Which hasn't happened.

I essense PTP has weakened themselves

and not hardly touched 'Teflon Obamark. '

Got result now. PM and all will stay

So much for Chalerm's bravado of bringing the government to its knees and finishing it off... :o

Guess we won't have Chalerm as Prime Minister, afterall... oh gosh darn...

Chalerm gets the PTI court case now.

We get a red rally promised to be 300K by some PTP dude.

Newin gets a few more PTP applicants for his new party.

Next potential censure date is some way off.

The opposition's veteran politician yesterday said he would focus on the allegation that the Democrat Party many years ago obtained a donation of Bt258 million from Prachai Leophairatana, then the top executive of TPI Polene, a public company listed on the stock exchange.

At that time,Pradit was Democrat secretary-general and Banyat Bantadtan was party leader.

Chalerm said his point was that the donation came from someone who did not really own the money.

"When the money doesn't belong to the person who gives it, you can't call that a donation. The money is not a personal asset; it comes from the stock exchange. That's my point," he said.

Deputy Finance Minister Pradit Pataraprasit Friday denied that he had received Bt263 million from TPI Polene through an advertisement firm.

Responding to allegations of Pheu Thai Party MP Chalerm Yoobamrung, Pradit said he strictly observed the election laws when he was the secretary-general of the Democrat Party in 2004 and 2005.

He said when he was the party secretary-general, the Democrat had not received money from TPI Polene or any public company.

Deja vu all over again...

"We will mobilise hundreds of thousands to rally," said Jatuporn, who is also an opposition lawmaker.

They are really narrowing the gap and approaching Jatuporn's "hundreds of thousands"...

Well guess its the end of this thread. Impeachment over and done with and failed.

Does that mean the "Abhisit Worried over Thailand's Image" thread is finished, too?

Its subject was the ASEAN Summit and that ended 20 days ago.

Chalerm is not Pheu Thai's party leader and does not hold the official position of opposition leader. However, Pheu Thai nominated him as its replacement prime minister in case Abhisit fails to get enough votes in the upcoming censure debate.

He admitted yesterday that Pheu Thai might be "a bit clumsy" as an opposition party.

"People elected us to become a government party, not an opposition party. We may look a bit clumsy because we are not good at being in opposition. I believe we won't be in the opposition for too long. If there is an election, we will return as the government," Chalerm said.

- The Nation -

Can you explain why you're highlighting the name of the party in bold, and no other parts of your text?

I've seen this tactic used before with posts, and it's not to add emphasis to other humans :D

I just copied. :o

The source is here http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2009/03/18...cs_30098189.php

When I check the source now, I see that I have 1 extra highlighting. I don't know why :D

Koo82 (and FYI Insight - a totally innocent explanation), the highlights are in the original Nation article; they are, in fact, hotlinks used by The Nation in most of their articles. It's a good idea to paste copied Nation articles into a text editor like Notepad first - then re-copy and paste from the Notepad text (Notepad effectively strips out any of the original article's highlighting/hotlinks etc) so all text will be the same - i.e. nothing highlighted.

Case closed, I think, Insight?

Now, with Abhisit as PM, steps have been taken to bring the PAD leaders to account, however, due to the vast backlog of cases left over from previous governments it will have to take it's place in the queue.

I've seen references to delays because of officers not being available (overseas assignments), witness interviews not complete etc - but your suggestion of the courts being clogged seems new. I can certainly see why you'd like this to be true - a neat double-hit as you both give an attractively "innocent" explanation for why the PAD cases are taking a long time to come to court - and manage to slip in a neat swipe at the previous government(s). But - do you have any source to cite that might demonstrate it is true?

BTW, I'd like to take this opportunity to say I appreciate the first-hand accounts (based on real local experience as opposed to others' theorising and conjecture about what they like to imagine/hope is the case) that you bring to this and other topics. Necessarily anecdotal but a valuable part of the whole picture. So - thanks. :o

So you keep parroting - numerous times there and now again here. Do you really think it's necessary to say the same thing half-a-dozen times before fellow ThaiVisa members get your point? Deja vu all over again... :o
