Windows 7 build 7057, is it RC1 already?

The License Agreement states direct on beginning:

MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 OPERATING SYSTEM RELEASE CANDIDATE 1

These license terms are an agreement between Microsoft Corporation (or based on where you live, one of its affiliates) and you. Please read them. They apply to the pre-release software named above, which includes the media on which you received it, if any. The terms also apply to any Microsoft ...................................................

Ok, will install it later today and let you know!!

Cheers.

I've installed it yesterday and it clearly says it's RC 1.

And besides, it's valid until next March(2010). :o

Is it possible to do an upgrade from Build 7000, or is a clean install required?

No clean install required!

I just started to "upgrade" my old build 7000 installation and it seems to work just fine. Will let you know later the final result.

Cheers

So, how to do this ? Can you give a link to this "upgrade"?

No. I couldn't! Because there isn't an "upgrade" available. Instead of the you need to use the Windows 7 DVD and choose the option of upgrading the existing installed Windows 7 OS!

All you need to have is that DVD.

By the way, that option using for upgrading will need some time also depending on how much programs pp. you had installed. The Upgrade isn't finish yet but I had to restart once from beginning because of power loss. It's now running 1 1/2 hour!

Cheers.

You download this build from any source you know and burn it onto DVD, then you'll have an option to upgrade from the one you already have.

Good luck.

Upgrade from Build 7000 to Build 7057 took 1 hour 57 minutes in total.

The upgrade itself was running and finish without problems. The input of the Key was required and the new activation as well. No any problem with that!

The performance index was updated with .3 points plus as well (for 3D graphics) and all programs working well after a take of a fast look.

So, everything is fine and if someone don't want a clean new install, which will need about 20 minutes, can just go ahead and upgrade the existing installation.

Cheers.

I just ran the setup.exe from the Win7 install files (Installed from harddrive no DVD) it seems to work. Any idea how long it takes? Dont want to do a night shift because of this...

Just upgraded my Home Computer from Build 7022 to Build 7057 (RC1) and it has need 1 hour! That's quite ok for an upgrade if I think that on the same computer the upgrade from XP to Vista took more than 4 hour's!!

All programs and settings was taken over and no need of any new installation!

Sometimes the next few day's I'll install FS-X and X-Plane to see they work better than on Vista of XP.

Cheers.

Reimar, how is the new build? HAve you found any new features? Is it faster? Eager to hear!

One of the problem with Windows 7 is that some software didn't work with it which is common for an Beta or even RC version of an really new OS!

On the other hand many programs working much better on W7! Like MS Excel which have a lot problems to run properly on XP or Vista if you use huge Spreadsheets , special in Mulktitasking, which means many open SP's at the same time. Still some unsolved problem with Excel but that's an problem MS has to solve!

The Upgrade from Build 7000 and Build 7022 went without any problems but need a lot longer than a clean installation.

Just doing the same work as before with the older release, it seems to be that the work is more stable. Access to the network works faster while the Internet is the same but that's about the connection!

My impression is that W7 works ages better than XP and Vista! It's faster in most instances! Not any BSOD! Not any hanging!

Short: I really like it.

Cheers.

Can this build be downloaded? I've got a Win7 beta key already from MS, and the 7000 build. I'd like to upgrade that to the newest build (or do a reinstall, id upgrade isnt possible)

Not official released yet!

By the way, upgrade is possible but need much longer time than clean install.

You can download it with utorrent. The beta key works.

I didn't need huge xls sheets to make Vista crash...no problems under win7 and never had any under XP!

Is there any mirror in thailand to download the iso ? I think that would be great considering the poor internet infrastructure in thailand :o

I download from Microsoft with 250+ kByte/s on an 2,560 kbps connection. That isn't bad at all!

But using torrents, you're direct limited in the download because most of the "Server's" are private computer with limited upload speed and with software like Windows 7 there to much downloads at the same time for to get an reliable speed.

If I take my own server for example, I've an max upload of 512 kbps or ~60 kByte/s. If at the same time more than 1 leecher connected, the speed directly drops with effect to all connected parties!

The limit for downloading at all times is the max upload of that server you're connected to.

As there is a minor problem after installing or upgrading to Windows 7 Build 7057, which shows on every boot an text file opened in Notepad, this is quite easy to fix:

1. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

2. Delete desktop.ini

3. Navigate to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

4. Delete desktop.ini if present.

That's all.

Cheers.

I was wondering about that, thought someone had been naughty with the ISO before uploading the torrent ... thanks for that...
