SURAT THANI: -- Bomb disposal police managed to defuse two Homemade Bombs planted in this stronghold province of the Democrat Party Tuesday night.

The first bomb was spotted at a power pole in front of a golf driving practice course in Muang district and the second bomb near a Democrat branch office in Kanchanadit district.

Police said the bomb were designed to be ignited by mobile phones and were similar to the ones used in the deep South.

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, whose home is in Surat Thani, said the bombs were apparently planted with political goal.

We have poltical tension building as a censure and a red rally approach. No surprise the bomb tactic appears. It has been relatively calm recently as Chang Noi pointed out and after the assault on government starting tomorrow and contiuning through next week is over things should get calmer again and Songkhran will be almost upon us. Until the censure and red rally are over there could however be more of this kind of thing.

SURAT THANI, March 18 (TNA) – Two bombs planted in separate locations in the Democrat Party stronghold of Surat Thani province were successfully defused on Wednesday morning.

Neither exploded, but at least one seemed to give a message to the ruling Democrat party.

One bomb was found at the base of a large Democrat party signboard, and another was placed at the base on an electrical power pole, both on the Surat Thani-Ban Nasan Road in the provincial seat.

A bomb squad from nearby Chumporn province used a high-pressure water cannon to short-circuit the explosive device’s electronic circuitry and cut the mobile phone signal.

The initial investigation found that the devices were fire bombs and ignited by mobile phone signal and could have damaged within a radius of 100 metres.

Police noted that the bombs were similar those used in insurgent incidents in the southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat. (TNA)

??

so now they have 2 mobile phone sim cards - probably Thai - so how hard is it for them to have the phone companies monitor calls to these numbers , use cell phone tower triangulation to get a pretty close approximation of the caller and then find the fcuker.

even in cases where the bomb actually exploded - it should be a simple task to see what phone stopped working in the bomb area, see what number was used to call it etc.

this seems to be basic ineptitude on the part of the security forces - their job is to put pressure on these people exploding bombs until they make mistakes or decide it is all too hard.

pretty scary it is getting close to the toursit spots, could you imagine if they planted such devices in say Soi Green Mango which has 1,000 of people there every night with 0 police or securtiy presense

Don't give them any ideas.

Though this clearly is intended for Dems themselves.

And rich Dems like to golf, so maybe this is to annoy

and limit their fields of play, similar to Thaksin's shrinking field of play.

Very much doubt this is coming from the south, even with similar design styles.

sounds easy, but what if those sim-cards were unused ?
