My main concerns would be accomodation space and finances, but within their own rules on the VFS site we're okay for space. I'm a carer for a disabled child in receipt of public funds, but seeing as we've been quite happily managing with her living here on holiday/marriage visit visa's since june last year, i dont think they can realistically say its not enough. I hope thats the case anyway, plus she'd be getting a job (not that it would apply to any visa decision i guess) but she's already had to turn down several since staying here due to visa restriction.

As I recall it, your wife's earning potential is relevant to whether the FCO should be satisfied that the two of you can support yourselves and the children.

Another one to add to the list. Got a phone call at 4 this morning from the mrs. Her visa is ready for collection.

Application submitted 28th July, ready for collection 30th Sept - 9 wks 1 day.

Well, the decision's been made as expected, and i'm fairly sure it was my cockup as you said, sh*t happens.

hi paul C from my recollection you made the same cock up as me and applied in the UK on FLR(M) having entered the UK on a fiance visit (as opposed to a fiance settlement) visa

has your refusal notice only made reference to Immigration Rule 284 (i)?? and not raised issues with any other aspects such as accomodation/recourse to public funds etc...? even though as in my case you never had a hope in hel_l because the application was ineligible under the rules they are required to disclose in the notice any other factors on which they could also have refused. if the only reason they gave was the technical legal one you should feel a little more reassured since the Immigration Rules they apply for out of country VAF4 settlement are essentially the same. unless there is a change in your material circumstances and so long as you leave the country in 28 days the refusal shouldnt do you much harm, as in my case since we got our settlement visa this week.

UNBELIEVABLE! Frantic messages from Bangkok: my daughter in law has her spouse visa TODAY, after applying on 19th August! Is that 6 weeks? I am trembling too much to count.....

For anyone worrying about living on benefits and a vanishingly tiny part-time income - that is my son's position. Yet it worked! I was SURE we would have to go to Appeal/Human Rights/months and months of more agonised waiting.

Good luck to everyone - they seem to be speeding up!

By the way, we did overkill on documentation - PILES of the stuff all carefully sorted and labelled. By her account of today's visit to collect it and her passport, they were glad to get rid of it......

Thanks for the congratulatory sentiments folks. I gotta say that I was fairly gobsmacked when Mrs Banana said she'd had the SMS to tell her that her passport was on its way back to Chiang Mai (after only 8 weeks). I guess I was equally shocked when she opened it and we'd got the visa because we certainly didn't present the most convincing case from a financial perspective, however, we did supplement it with loads of evidence of our relationship and documents indicating our combined capacity for earnings in the future.

UNBELIEVABLE! Frantic messages from Bangkok: my daughter in law has her spouse visa TODAY, after applying on 19th August! Is that 6 weeks? I am trembling too much to count.....

For anyone worrying about living on benefits and a vanishingly tiny part-time income - that is my son's position. Yet it worked! I was SURE we would have to go to Appeal/Human Rights/months and months of more agonised waiting.

Good luck to everyone - they seem to be speeding up!

By the way, we did overkill on documentation - PILES of the stuff all carefully sorted and labelled. By her account of today's visit to collect it and her passport, they were glad to get rid of it......

Congrat's. My wife submitted her application on the 13th August, however I will not get my hopes up of a quick result the same as your daughter-in-law. ECO's work in mysterious ways! Congrat's again.

Visa granted!!!! 7 weeks 5 days. Received the sms this morning and went down, forgot we needed to wait until 3pm to pick up but the guy on the door said no worries if we gave him the price of a coffee he would see if we could pick up there and then which we did.

Well happy and can now start planning to go to the UK by end of this month.

Sorry not been online..it was refused..the Eco wasn’t happy we supplied enough info that we have a subsisting relationship (something we all take for granted). We have now hastily provided more evidence in an attempt to get the ECO to change his mind. I believe this has been successful before but we can only hope. We originally supplied photos of our engagement party at my GF with her family and photos of us together at various places in Thailand. We also supplied about 3 months worth of emails and thank you notes from my daughter in the UK for gifts my GF sent. When I’m working in the UK we keep in touch via txt and MSN (tip for MSN users…it doesn’t by default save conversations unless you go in options and tick the box. It then creates and XLM file which can be read using IE7 and above). The ECO wanted itemised phone bill and letters…..well the phone bill we can do but letters? Any way now printed off 9 months worth of emails, same with phone bill, bank statements showing swift transfers and anything else we could think of. The ECO also said on the grounds of probability the evidence didn’t prove I actually stayed with my GF when I was in Thailand so that one’s got me flummoxed! I don’t know what evidence to supply that would support that – any suggestions? We have also been advised to re-apply if unsuccessful as this quicker than an appeal !! 'spose they do seem to be coming thro' quicker now.

Sorry not been online..it was refused..the Eco wasn’t happy we supplied enough info that we have a subsisting relationship (something we all take for granted). We have now hastily provided more evidence in an attempt to get the ECO to change his mind. I believe this has been successful before but we can only hope. We originally supplied photos of our engagement party at my GF with her family and photos of us together at various places in Thailand. We also supplied about 3 months worth of emails and thank you notes from my daughter in the UK for gifts my GF sent. When I’m working in the UK we keep in touch via txt and MSN (tip for MSN users…it doesn’t by default save conversations unless you go in options and tick the box. It then creates and XLM file which can be read using IE7 and above). The ECO wanted itemised phone bill and letters…..well the phone bill we can do but letters? Any way now printed off 9 months worth of emails, same with phone bill, bank statements showing swift transfers and anything else we could think of. The ECO also said on the grounds of probability the evidence didn’t prove I actually stayed with my GF when I was in Thailand so that one’s got me flummoxed! I don’t know what evidence to supply that would support that – any suggestions? We have also been advised to re-apply if unsuccessful as this quicker than an appeal !! 'spose they do seem to be coming thro' quicker now.
