Hi,

I accidentally formatted the partition where I keep pictures-panic!!!

Using "data recovery professional" I was able to recover many of them, but all of pictures that have been recovered are not viewable even they are in .JPG.

ACDsee photo manager says " the source data format is not recognized". :o

Can anyone help me out, I'm in really big trouble. :D

Thanks.

ps: any recommendation on file recovering software will be greatly appreciated.

I assume you can not open any file.

Do you have Photoshop or Corel installed?

take a file and rename it with most known image extension i.e. tiff, .png, .psd, .jpeg

Try to open it with Photoshop.

If it doesn't work, please upload one of your recovered files and post. If it is a large file, PM me. I might be able to help you but I have to have one of those files on my PC to find a solution.

Heres some global help about image corruption FIX JPG IMAGES. I have nothing in common with this service!

Thanks,

Sadly I don't have any of software you mentioned, but I'll pop over to a shop in downtown Chiangmai and grab one.

I guess I've only recovered most of I and the wife's pictures, but lost-at least for now-all of my dogs all videos because on the recovery software it was very difficult identify which is which.

O.K, I'll try the way you suggested and report it back as quick as possible.

Thanks again.

Thanks very much to all of you guys.

I'll try every possible way to recover pictures, but is there any ways to recover videos or software that allows not-so-savvy-person like myself to use?

As I said on earlier post, it was nearly impossible to identify files from the list, they were all numbered.

I must get our pictures and videos back, because I've lost backup disks. :o

I was partitioning for a new drive for pictures when I hit the "format" button.

Thanks.

J.C in helluva trouble.

The above recovery softwares ID's the files and recovers them. It is designed for just what you did so should work if you do not write over the files first.

To determine if a recovered file is damaged or corrupted is not an easy task.

In case you got back all those files with your used recovery or programs mentioned in his thread it is maybe a file extension issue only.

Those programs mentioned might have changed the extension, but it is hard to determine without a "sample".

Jpg is a compressed format and there are ways to check what actually has happened to the file. What information does the file contain!

Thanks all of you(khundon, lopburi3,Tywais and ignis) who tried help me.

I finally decided seek for professional's help-if that's still an option.

Well, lesson learned, in hardest way.

I guess, disabling "user's account control" was a bad idea, I knew I hit the wrong(format) button, but I couldn't stop and everything went in less than a couple of second.(I'm on Win 7x64bit)

If, I mean very if, I get all pictures and videos back, I'll let all of you guys know, wish me luck.

Thanks again.

ps: Special thanks to webfact and veazer

It was very nice to have mails from this board members concerning over my stupid problem.

Thanks good guys.
