I live in Samrong, just outside Bangkok. I do have a motorbike and usually use it when I travel into the city but sometimes I use the local bus. My friend learns Thai at a school on Thong Loh and uses the bus daily. Many times, usually around lunch time the journey has been free. There is a ticket collector on board and even after offering to pay, we/he has been told it is free. Does anyone know the rules? Is this just on certain busses or routes? Is this only for a limited time?

Thanks for any input.

The free buses are those red and cream ones which have a blue lettering on white background sign above the front windshield, and also above the doors. There seem to be some free buses on all the routes served by red and cream buses, though as with the timing more generally, when the free one will come is up to chance.

I know the free period has been extended once, until when I don't know.
