Registering A New 250cc Bike

Hi there,

I am just about to get a new 250 cc bike which i would get registered on my name. I have a variety of different quotes from different dealers now....which makes me really wonder. Does anyone know the "real " price of registering a new 250 ccbike?

There are currently 3x 250cc bikes available in Thailand, with 1 and lets hope a few more after the Bangkok Motorshow. The first is a Tiger Boxer 250 RS which costs +/- 72,000 Baht, then you got 2 Kawasaki motorcycles which cost in the 150,000 Baht range.

Both Kawasaki and Tiger do all the paper work for you....

Richard, Thanks for reply. I do get the tiger boxer 250 rs. The thing is there are more than one Bike delaer who represents Tiger where i live and everyone tells me a different price on the registration ...ranges between 315 - 1600 THB so can anybody tell me the correct price?

Yes, that sounds about right, unless you want a special number plate, in which case you will have to pay an additional 1000 Baht.

Thanks Guys ( makes me wonder how the one came up for 315 thb for registration)

I will let this Dealer register the bike, who has the best service & service facilities...they charge 800 THB for registration which seems reasonable .

The Tiger 250 is a good cruiser bike ideal for lower speed travels and the front forks are nice and smooth. lots of midrange power from the engine. Registration should be 625b for up to 250cc (still not sure how Kawasaki are doing the ER6 for this amount. but hey nevermind :o )

Hi allan,

I will get the "new" seat about one week later( they introduce the new seat on the motorshow..) as the bike which still has the "regular " seat, arranged from Pariya. I also asked for kickstarter which is given for free and so does the "new" seat come for free...i testdrove the Boxer ( 200 cc) and liked it a lot, and ordered the 250 rs. Windscreen and Rack for topcase totals 1500 THb for both...can't complain about this price. Even more do i like to point out the so far great service received...can't imagine that Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki or kawasaki will go that far.

One of the best people to get hold of at Tiger is actually Pariya at Tiger Showroom in Chatuchak ( although the others there where also friendly but i was helped by pariya ). He speaks very good english, is knowledgable, and gives in a lot of effort.

Can't wait to get the bike now....will keep you updated how it goes,

You really got at pointers, yes the factory is actually outside Bangkok, but the I live in Bangkok I'm 20 times faster at the Tiger Factory on my scooter.... then I can on my 1 liter bike going downtown Centralworld.

Officially, I have to rethink that statement as they not started to start asking for toll on the new bridge...

Wow, I think I actually saw my very first civilian Tiger Boxer today. A maroon RS, no mention of the cc, less than 1000 km on the single white clock. I was not impressed with it. Of course, I was in Bangkok. Also saw a parked and unattended police 200 Boxer with less than 10,000 on the clock, well worn.

But then, I am a sport biker who had several naked Japanese sport bikes. Unimpressed.

Yes its a pile, built down to a price with old technology,// id pay the extra and have the kawasaki every time ( even though apart from the efi system it too is 16 years old )

IMspurt. Where do you get the idea that the Kawasaki is 16 years old.

'n 2008, Kawasaki gave the EX250 its most thorough modernization in many years. The EX250-J model is known as the Ninja 250R worldwide. Kawasaki increased the MSRP by $500 U.S.D., to $3,499 in 2008 and by an additional $500 U.S.D. to $3,999 in 2009.

Parts from the third generation are still found on the -J, but its redesigned exterior panels bring the smallest Ninja's appearance out of the '90s and into line with late-2000s sportbikes. The engine and drivetrain retain ONLY 30% of the -F model's parts, according to Kawasaki literature. The engine's compression and maximum torque have been lowered to provide 20% better midrange performance, where the motorcycle will spend most of its time. The U.S.-spec -J model uses dual carburetors like the -F model, but the European-spec and Thailand-spec model have a fuel-injection system. The wheels were increased in size to 17", the front suspension was beefed up, and the front brake rotors were replaced with a larger "petal" design. A fuel gauge, a rarity in motorcycles, was added to the instrument cluster, implying an emphasis on attracting new riders.'

Also Blondie. what was it that left you unimpressed. have you seen the new ones yet. a couple of years can make a big difference. even just in paint schemes. was at a shop today had a few cbr150's in.

the older ones paint scheme looked <deleted> compared to the newer one

(and you know i'm not knocking ya cos i was very happy with my cbr150)

Hi allan-here's the update,

I got my Tiger Boxer rs250, original red paint,with rack for topbox ,and windscreen plus kickstarter, day before yesterday. It has also the new seat. I have to say the Bike is really fantastic ...having to add that a price which included the registration insurance...in total for 75000 THb i find it resonable priced. Driving it is a pleasure and doing turns is easy too...when i do a bit higher speeds it really is amazing how smooth it rides...but my Boxer is still new so i keep it " on the slow side"....the Boxer reminds me a bit on my honda Bros 650 i used to have...granted not the same but slim and easy to drive in town, power and speedy out of town...seat i have to say is better than on bros;-)

I used gasohol e10 this fill but will try next time e20 which makes it very cheap to run it.

The work itself and a look behind the covers reveals that the boxer is assembled really well and everything is nice and tidy sorted, just as you expect from a new bike.

Sometimes i am surprised when i read the negativ comments over this bike.....in particular of people who only look at it and than being "unimpressed" (did they actually ever drive it???). The Boxer is a bike to drive, maybe less to impress:-) (although i have to say it looks nice) Can't really say that a 150 cbr is "impressing" - and i have to add that i did (test)drive a cbr 150 before.

Mbox good for you with the new bike. i saw the new seat at the Bangkok motor show and looks a big improvement but i would still like to see it come down and around the fuel tank like the cbr150. also they had 2 lovely retro bikes the one in the picture i'm getting for the girlfriend but in metalic blue.Check out the price 29,800baht NEW

they also had a tt replica based on the 150cc engine bit small but perfect for smaller people, my mates ordered one of those 49,800b new. Allan
