Gprs Rates Per Mb Usage?

Featured Replies

Hi

I am looking for a provider in Thailand where GPRS traffic are paid by per traffic usage, and not per minute. My phone is online most of the time, and checking for new e-mails every 1-2 minutes.

I have checked with DTAC, AIS and True Move - All of them charge per minute, and not per mb. They CAN charge per mb, but then the price is truly horrific.

Is it really so, that no company in Thailand charge for the usage without being crazy with their prices? I.e. Denmark charges 12 baht per Mb used. Thailand (AIS) charges 150 baht per Mb. DTAC charges 0.10 per kb. used, or 100 baht per Mb.

I do know that there are "Un-Limited" offers avaiable, but 1000 baht just to check e-mail seems a bit steep...

Hope someone can point me in the right direction :o

DTAC (my phone provider) offers several GPRS packages.

They do not charge by minute but by how many MB you want to use per billing cycle.

Really? I have been in contact with DTAC the last couple of days, and they insist on not having products (at normal prices) for GPRS charges per MB. Do you have more information on this? How much do you pay?

Are you pre- or post paid? In my post-paid plan (they have many to offer) there is GPRS included. Ain't got no idea how it will be on a pre-paid card.

I recommend you visit the office of the carrier you choose. You get more detailed information. Did that few month ago and was offered a " special promotion" (Thais love these words),

signed up and pay 500 Baht less per month compared with my previous "special promotion".

I use post-paid only. Went to their shop yesterday - They only have (so they say) packages with per-minute GPRS data rates...

Just made a call to DTAC call center. They have "GPRS promotions" which come with the monthly plan you choose. You can change your plan as many times as you like at least every 3 month. In my plan there are 40hours of GPRS included for 99 Baht p. month.

I do not want give any wrong advise or spread a rumor. Maybe you got a different information than I got. I am using at least 20 hours p. month GPRS and my invoice shows not over 900-1200 Baht, depending on how many

additional calls I was charged. (not included in my plan). They have GPRS plans specially tailored for being on the road with your laptop.

Thats how I can help you.

True seems to have an unlimited internet package for BHT 250/Month...

They also have iPhone data plans that include 1GB of data, not sure if they have something like this without buying an iphone too. May be worth to call and ask.

I think you're understanding the OP wrong.

You are also paying per time online (99 Baht for 40 hours), not per amount of data transferred.

The op wishes to be online all the time (=720 hours/month), but only pay per amount of data actually transferred.

Which is actually how they normally bill mobile internet in most Western countries. You can be online 24/7 with them, how much you pay is calculated on how much data you use.

The pricing system in Thailand is actually very cheap for surfing, but for some applications it ends up very expensive, example chat applications. They're online all the time, yet use only very little data!
