I downloaded audio files from thai-language.com and then used software to convert the wmv files to mp3 and then used another software program to merge these files together, because apparently they are too small to be added to my Ipod seperately... but there was no way to create a pause after each file, so it turned into a jumbled mess.

Perhaps there is a merging software that allows you to specify a delay before each file.

Anyways, does anyone know of any audio files for purchase or download that can be transfered to one's IPOD for easy listening? I have Thai Pimseluer but I do not like their style. I just want list of words. Like, days of the week, and then one after another, Objects, feelings, body parts, etc. I will then study with a little notebook while on the bts/exercising/etc.

Any ideas?

There is a dvd on Thai Lang they sell at Phrom Pong BTS...I think there is video. does anyone know if the audio files can be seperated and then converted to mp3 for an Ipod?

Thanks.

I've been using Audacity for a few years.....saw it in one of Wanda Sloan's columns (Bangkok Post database). It's available at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ for free!

You can manipulate any sound file.......combine files......a whole host of editing possibilities.....then resave as an mp3 or other type file.

On a somewhat related topic, I recently bought an IPOD Nano 16gb in the States and had someone bring it over to me. I am giving it to my gf, and am wondering how to get Thai language loaded on the unit so that it can display song titles and playlists in Thai? At this point, it loads the Thai songs, but shows blank titles.

I was thinking maybe we could go to MBK and somebody would know how to do it, but the IPOD website isn't much help. Supposedly it does have Thai language display ability, but can't find it on the unit or as a download.

I also use Audacity to edit and prepare files for MP3 player listening although I output .wav files and convert to wma. files using jetAudio (free download).

I have just tried playing a DVD on the computer and I can record the soundtrack with Audacity OK, just have to do it in real time so its time consuming.

I like to record VOA news in Thai and edit out all the jingles etc. Then it takes me hours of listening and replaying to try and work out what they are saying. The short snippets of English, and knowing what the news is that day helps a lot. Googling key words for that days news also helps in working out the Thai.

Requires a firmware change or modification. This is not something I'd recommend doing yourself, unless you really know what you're doing. MBK may well be your best bet.

You might need to fiddle a bit on some of them...

Free

Free and paid

http://learn-thai-podcast.com

http://www.linguaphone.co.uk/learn-thai-in...ai-courses.html

(similar to Pimsleur but British)

Becker

http://www.thaiforbeginners.com/

You can also get Becker's Thai for Travellers phrase book that has basic vocab (comes with sound)

For the basic beginner words, the Collins Thai phrase book and 40 min Thai (same) have what you need.

Byki (free and paid) has Thai-English phrases but you need to keep your eyes open for a couple of mistakes.

There are others. Some are here and another is coming on the first of the month.

I don't think there's a language issue with the iPod (albeit you can't select Thai for menues etc., song titles should still display correctly) -- the songs probably don't have mp3 tags (= song title, artist, album, etc. stored in the file, along with the music). The Thai songs probably come off mp3 CDs, right? Many (most?) of those are quick & dirty rips. Depending on the ripper software used, there might well be tags, but not in an encoding that can be shown on a proper mp3 player.

Do song titles, artists etc. show up properly in iTunes? If not -- fix it there, and after the next sync, things should be fine on the iPod!
