I live in Nonthaburi in a condo with my wife, the condo is not fancy but we fixed up our unit to US standards, it’s a small 2 bedroom 2 bath 64 metre we also bought the studio unit next door and open the wall giving us another 32 metres, so we live small compared to US standards but we have gotten used to the space, we have a lot of Large windows which we replaced with double pane windows which reduced the noise by 50% anyway we looked at houses for sale In Hua Hin, Cha Am area Lots of gated community houses are going in down there but the quality of the new homes are just not up to standards. Am thing buying one that has already been lived in is a better way to go this way the homeowner would had already made the improvements necessary to make it a real home. Many of these new homes being built are bought by investors and rented out long term, we stayed in a pool villa for 100.000 baht a month and we had a car to use and a cook to prepare are meals. Anyway we decided to rent another condo in Cha Am on the beach 50 feet from the water with a spectator view of the beach for 15,000 baht it’s a old building and we did about 100,000 baht to paint, replace bathroom fixtures, buy cooking appliances, pots, pans, etc. It’s not fancy but it’s comfortable we choose this over a house because it was easy we can live both places and shut the door and not worry about someone breaking in while we are gone, also don’t have to worry about building repairs. I think we made the right choice we are in our 70’s so want to go slow about all of our decisions. We want to Enjoy are retirement & each other.
